04.02.07  THERE....AND THEREABOUTS

The U10 Assassins have become the first Brockham side this season to book their place in a Cup Final. Jason Rabbetts' team beat Horley Town B 4-1 in the semi-final of the Epsom & Ewell League's George Szekely Cup. They'll meet Whyteleafe in April's Final.

The U12As are also 'nearly there'. A 4-0 win at Old Dorkinians earns a place in the Semi-Final of the Horsham League's Frank Geiss Memorial Cup. Success too for the U14Bs, who overcame Ashington Cougars and will now play in the Semi-Final of the U14 Plate. Disappointment though for the U15Bs - a narrow 4-3 defeat by Storrington edged them out of the U15 Plate.

The U10 Assassins earned some silverware pre-season....and can now hope there'll be more where this came from as they book their League Cup Final place.

Meanwhile, the U11As made history as they became the first Brockham Badgers side to play in a Quarter Final of the Surrey County Cup. Althought their heroics came to an end with a 5-0 defeat by Tooting and Mitcham, for a community club like Brockham to make the last eight of such a prestigious competition is a tremendous achievement - and there is no reason to be disappointed by losing to an elite club of the standing of Tooting and Mitcham. Well done to the U11As - and thanks to all those who came along to the Big Field to cheer them on.

11.02.07  WEATHER BEATERS

The combination of snow followed by a couple of days' rain finally took its toll on the Big Field, with some of the main pitches unplayable. The postponements at home and away, combined with Half-Term, meant it was a reduced league programme this weekend.

But there was no shortage of excitement. The U12As became the first visiting team to score in a league game at Ashurst Wood for eighteen months - taking the lead after just fifteen seconds! Their good fortune ended there however, and they eventually succumbed 3-1 to one of the top teams in Division A.

Elsewhere, the U10 Crusaders won a thrilling six-pointer at the foot of the Epsom and Ewell Division 5. Their 5-4 victory moved them out of the bottom two. Meanwhile the U10 Barbarians were in scorching form, with a 6-0 win in the Division 3 clash at Caterham.

Not hanging about - the U12As scored after just fifteen seconds. It was the first league goal conceded at home by Ashurst Wood in eighteen months.

12.02.07  SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:  DORKING FC v PORTSMOUTH XI: BENEFIT MATCH FOR STEWART VAUGHAN

Brockham Badgers FC is the affiliated youth club for Dorking FC, the local senior football side.

With regret we announce that Dorking club captain Stewart Vaughan has recently been advised that he is suffering from a terminal illness. Stewart is 27 years old and has been with the club for six years. Before that he played also for Leatherhead and Croydon Athletic.
On Tuesday 27 February, Dorking will entertain a Portsmouth XI.  The Premiership club have readily agreed to send a side to Dorking's Meadowbank ground to play a benefit match for Stewart. Portsmouth will be led by their reserve team manager, ex-England and Arsenal captain Tony Adams.

Brockham Badgers FC are committed to supporting this benefit game, and players from the U10s, U11s and U12s will form a Guard of Honour to welcome the players onto the pitch. Prices on the night are £5 for adults and £3 for children.  Kick off is 7-30pm  at Dorking's Meadowbank ground in Mill Lane. Click here for directions.

Brockham Badgers' Management Committee would like to send its best wishes on behalf of the club to Stewart and his family. The Committee urges as many people as possible to come along, make the most of seeing some football stars in Dorking but - most importantly - support this worthy cause.

25.02.07  DINNER DANCE: DEADLINE EXTENDED!

Organiser Alison Robins reports excellent numbers for this year's Annual Dinner Dance - Brockham Badgers' main social event.

Alison's also managed to negotiate an extension to the booking deadline. So, if you haven't reserved your place yet, it's not too late.  But - don't delay! Bookings must close this week!  Click here to download full details and booking form   (Microsoft Word document).

18.02.07  HALF TERM TRAINING BRINGS INSTANT RESULTS!

Younger Badgers, boys and girls, took advantage of the break from school and competitive matches to improve their skills and game play under the expert tuition of UEFA B-licensed coach, Nick Torpey.

Nick, who delivers coaching throughout the season to all Brockham Badgers players, ran morning and afternoon sessions for three days during the half-term holiday. Click here for details and pictures.

And the coaching was followed by success on the pitch in this weekend's matches. The U11As maintained their lead at the head of the Epsom and Ewell First Division, with a 4-0 home win and the U10 Assassins were convincing 5-0 winners at Caterham.
If all else fails, a circus career beckons!
U11s and U12s practice their skills ona half-term coaching course.
In friendly matches, the U12 (Blacks) won at Upper Beeding, whilst the U9 (Reds) put in a strong team performance to defeat Epsom and Ewell Premier League leaders Sutton United.

25.02.07  100 PER-CENTERS

The U9 (Reds) are just one point away from claiming the Tadworth League Division One title. And astonishly, the young Badgers have yet to drop a point this season, claiming their eighth victory out of eight league matches in a 2-0 win at Walton Warriors. The title showdown is in two weeks' time, when the U9s host nearest rivals Holmbury. A draw will be enough to make Brockham champions.

Elsewhere this weekend, the U12 (Blacks) strengthened their position at the top of the Horsham 'D' division with an 8-1 win, and the U11Bs recorded their biggest win of the season - 7-1 at Walton Heath.

The U11Bs found the net seven times at Walton Heath, their biggest score of the season.
