01.01.07  A BRIGHT FUTURE

Brockham Badgers FC can look back on a tremendous 2006 for the club - and there's plenty to be optimistic for in 2007.

The past year has seen another record number of boys and girls registering to play for the Badgers - over 300 players now compete each week in teams from Under 7s to Under 17s. And, of course, we made our mark in Surrey youth football with our first ever open tournament - Brockham 06, praised by many who visited the Big Field as the best organised tournament they had seen.

Thanks goes to everyone involved...players, parents and those who help in any way.

The signs are that 2007 will be just as exciting. The Club continues to grow, with more members and improved coaching - as well as major strategic plans being put in place for the future. The Annual Dinner Dance is on 10th March. And, of course, after its inaugural success, the weekend of 16-17 June will see the return of our World Cup Tournament, Brockham 07.

So, it's a busy year and we'll need as much help as we can get as we continue to develop our club as a major sporting organisation for boys and girls of all abilities. If you think you could get more involved with the Club in 2007, either for a one-off event or on a regular basis, then please send an email to info@brockhambadgersfc.co.uk - and a member of the Management Committee will contact you.

Happy New Year!

06.01.07  A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR

It's been the happiest of starts to the new year for Brockham Badgers. The Christmas break came to an end and we resumed league action in style.

No fewer than eight of our teams recorded a victory - and we certainly hadn't forgotten how to score either! Top marksmen were the U15As, who moved up to second in the table with a 10-3 victory over Lingfield, whilst the U12 (Blacks) remained top of their Division with a 9-0 away win at Cranleigh. The U12As continued their recent revival as they became only the second side this year to beat Horsham Crusaders. Well done too to the U15Bs, who moved away from the bottom of the league by recording their third victory of the season - 1-0 at home to Storrington.

There were also wins for the U14Bs (7-5 no less!), the U10 Assassins, U10 Barbarians and U9 (Reds).

Meanwhile, the U12 Girls are continuing to enjoy their landmark season - the first Badgers' girls' team to compete in league action. A selection of pictures, taken in the first half of the year by M R Woodman, has now been posted online. Click here to view them on the Brockham Badgers Flickr site.

15.01.07  TWO DAYS, TWO GAMES...TOO GOOD!

You won't hear manager Simon Coffey moaning about fixture congestion. His U11As played two games on consecutive mornings this weekend and came away with two clean sheets, an extended lead at the top of the league and a place in the Quarter Finals of the Surrey County Cup.

First up on Saturday it was a 4-0 home win against Wolves, a result that puts the U11As four points clear at the top of the Epsom and Ewell Division One, with two games in hand. Then, just 24 hours later, the same boys travelled to Abbey Rangers for a fourth round cup tie, and overcame strong opposition 2-0. The result earns a home quarter final against Tooting and Mitcham on 4th February.

Two games in two days - and two kits.
The U11As take a rare opportunity to line up in their yellow 'away' strip after a highly successful weekend's action.

Little doubt then about the Badgers' team of the weekend! But credit also to the U12As, who also won through to the quarter finals of their League Cup, with a 7-1 win at Henfield.

15.01.07  IT'S BACK:  BROCKHAM 07 NOW ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS

After a highly successful inaugural event last summer, Brockham Badgers' World Cup 6-a-side Youth Football Tournament will return this June.

Brockham 07 takes place on 16th and 17th June - and promises to meet the same high standards as last year's event. Over 140 teams, 1200 players and up to 2500 spectators will come to the Big Field for a weekend of family fun and competitive football.

Registration is open now and visiting clubs are advised to apply early - last year's tournament was fully booked with many teams already expressing an interest in taking part once again.

21.01.07  BLOWING HOT AND COLD

As bitter winds and rain swept across Surrey, leading to several postponements, Brockham's U17s were in hot form. In their first match of 2007, they chalked up a 10-1 win at West Sutton Rangers, with no fewer than five goals for Anthony Israkpona on his debut!

The U14Bs won their first ever cup match, the U12As made it five wins on the spin, by beating Ashington Cougars 4-1 on the Big Field and the U13Bs were 3-2 winners at Old Dorkinian Saints.

Elsewhere, there were spirited fightbacks in adversity - but few points. The U11Bs found themselves 5-0 down at half time. Lesser teams would have given up - but the boys stopped the rot with a fine second half that netted them three goals without further reply. The U10 Assassins, also came back from two goals down but eventually succumbed 3-2 to Ashtead Colts.

The U10 Assassins were a force going forward, but undone by defensive frailties at Ashtead.

28.01.07  PERFECT PREPARATION FOR HISTORY MAKERS

The U11As battled to a 2-1 league win over Anglo Saxon that extends their lead at the top of the Epsom and Ewell Division One to six points - with two games in hand.

The game may have been scrappy in places, but the result is a good confidence booster ahead of next weekend's historic cup tie. Simon Coffey's side are the first Brockham Badgers' team to make it to the Quarter Finals of the Surrey Cup. It's a great achievement, and the boys deserve our support as they attempt to make it to the Semis. They face a home tie against Tooting & Mitcham - surely one fo the favourites for the competition.

The game kicks off at 10am, Sunday 4th February on The Big Field. All supporters welcome!

U11As master Anglo Saxon - but the real history is next Sunday!

Elsewhere this weekend, the U12As made it five wins in a row, with a 6-0 victory over Ockley. The U13Bs recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the U9 (Reds) maintained their 100% record with a sixth victory in the Tadworth League and there were good results for the U17s, U15Bs, U14As, U10 Assassins and U8 (Blues).
