01.10.06 MORE EARLY LEADERS
The good early season form continued for the younger age groups. The U11As remain top of the Epsom and Ewell First Division after a 2-0 win at Mole Valley Predators completed a hat-trick of wins in September.
The U10 Assassins are also hitting a rich vein of form. After an opening day defeat, they netted four goals for the second week running to recod a second victory and a place amongst the pace-setters in the Epsom and Ewell Mini League.
The weekend saw the start of the season for the Tadworth League, with the U8s and U9s in action for the first time. And it was mixed emotions in the U9s - as their first fixture was a local derby! The U9 (Reds) came out on top, beating their U9 (Blue) colleagues 8-0.
Elsewhere, the U17s continued their good early form with a 3-0 win over Chessington. But the good times had to end some day for the U12 Girls - and that day was Sunday, with a first defeat of the season, at home to Bracknell Vipers.
08.10.06 THE WINNING HABIT
After a dodgy start, taking just one point from their first two games, the U14Bs have shown that winning really is a habit....making it three in a row this weekend, and moving to the top of the Horsham and District C Division. Read player Oli Goddard's match report here.
The U11As are also on a winning streak. Four games into their first season of the 11-a-side game, Simon Coffey's team still have a 100% record. Their 2-0 home win over Roundshaw maintains their place at the top of the Epsom and Ewell First Division.
Meanwhile, for one of our teams that hasn't enjoyed such a successful start to the season, this was the weekend when perseverance really paid off. The U10 Barbarians have been threatening a breakthrough with good attacking play for several weeks - but have been unable to get a result. It all came good on Saturday, with a 3-0 win over Carshalton Saints getting them off the mark in the Epsom and Ewell Mini League.
11.10.06 U17s LOOKING FOR 12th MAN!
Brockham's newly-formed U17 squad are inviting all parents and players, as well as others interested in the club, to come along to the Big Field this Sunday, to support the team as they face their toughest match of the season so far.
This year, the Badgers are fielding an U17 side for only the second time in the Club's history - they've also stepped up to the challenge of playing in the Epsom and Ewell League. And it's been a strong start - with three wins in the first five matches. This Sunday, it's a local derby - they entertain Dorking Colts, currently top of the league with a 100% record.
It's a challenge - and strong support could be as good as an extra player. Team Manager, Roger Bayliss says "Local pride is at stake" and is inviting anyone who would like to cheer the team to come along.
So, if you're out walking the dog, getting some air - or simply want to root for Brockham....then why not do it on the Big Field this Sunday morning? Kick off is at 10am.
15.10.06 GOAL SCORING FEAT!
In a weekend of high scoring games, with over 100 goals in all Badgers' matches, the goal scoring feet of two players stood out.
In the U12 (Blacks), it took Oliver Curtis just eight minutes to record the fastest hatrick of the season so far. And, in the U10 Assassins, Sam Lloyd helped his side cruise into the second round of the George Szekely Cup, netting all the goals in a 4-0 victory.
As many of our teams faces sides from other Divisions in a weekend of cup action, big scorelines were the order of the day. Top scorers were the U15As, with a 10-0 win over Hurstpierpoint, whilst the U12As were 9-0 victors at Storrington. There were a few reverses as well - the U15Bs, U13As and Bs, U12 (Whites) U10 Barbarians and U10 Crusaders will all be able to concentrate on the league from now on!
In the Epsom and Ewell League, it was the first big local derby as our new U17 side took on Dorking Colts. It was a spirited performance against the side at the top of the table but, at the end, it was Dorking who took the points and maintained their 100% start to the season.
19.10.06 BADGERS GO FREE TO DORKING FC LOCAL DERBY
Brockham Badgers players, their brothers, sisters and friends can get free admission this Saturday, whenh Dorking FC take on local rivals Chertsey Town in the Combined Counties Premier Division.
It's part of the tie up which has seen Brockham become the affiliated youth club to Dorking. A similar free admission scheme was in place for a cup match in January, when around 80 Badgers attended. Dorking are hoping for similar support for the local derby this Saturday, 21st October.
The game is at Meadowbank, Mill Lane - click here for a map. Free admissions will need to be accompanied by a full-paying adult (ticket price £6). Kick off is 3pm.
22.10.06 PLENTY OF EFFORT....LITTLE REWARD
With most of the Brockham squads enjoying a half-term break this weekend, just three Badgers' teams took to the field - all from the younger age groups.
There was plenty to be proud of, with much effort, loads of good play and quite a few goals. But there was no reward in terms of points. From leading the league leaders 2-0 at half-time, a five minute second half spell led to a 3-2 defeat for the U10 Assassins. And the U10 Barbarians also scored twice, but eventually succumbed to a 4-2 defeat.
29.10.06 GOOD SPORT
In a weekend of terrific, battling performances by Brockham teams, sportsmanship came to the fore in the U12As on Saturday.
With the Badgers trailing 2-0 to high-flying Ashurst Wood, the referee pointed to the spot, awarding Brockham a penalty for a foul by the keeper facing a one-on-one with a Badgers' striker. Despite being offered an opportunity to get back into the match, the U12As gamely told the referee that the keeper had made no contact and turned the spot kick down!
The U12s are undeniably good sports - and there was plenty of good sport on offer elsewhere. Leading the way, the U11As moved three points clear at the top of the Epsom and Ewell League First Division, with a convincing 7-0 win over Fetcham. Whilst the U11Bs were also comprehensive in victory - beating West Byfleet 6-0 to go fourth in Division Three.
After two defeats, the U17s returned to winning ways in style, with an 8-1 away victory at Reigate Priory. Other teams fared less well but still competed well - notably the U12 (Blacks) narrowly lost out 3-2 at Kirdford, whilst the U14Bs surrendered top spot in their league after slipping to a 4-3 defeat at Ashington.
