10.09.06 NEW SEASON KICKS OFF WITH SIX OF THE BEST!
The opening weekend of the new season - and Badgers teams throughout the age groups had their shooting boots on.
We fielded an U17 team for only the second time in the club's history, as the squad was determined to stay together and continue playing regular football. Already it looks an inspired move. Roger Bayliss' side kicked off in the Epsom and Ewell League with a 6-2 win over last year's champions. The victory was made all the more remarkable by the fact they came from two goals behind.Read Roger's full match report here.
The U15As also netted six times without reply, for an opening day win against Ockley Acorns. The U12 Girls side performed even better - Brockham Badgers' first-ever girls league match ended with a 12-0 win against an admittedly depleted Tooting & Mitcham side.
Two Brockham teams, the U11As and Bs, enjoyed their first experience of the 11-a-side game, complete with off-side rules....and they both got a taste for it, recording 5-1 and 1-0 victories respectively. There were also wins for the U15Bs and U13Bs, with special mention to the U12 (Blacks) who recoved from a three-goal defecit to earn a 4-4 draw at Copthorne.
02.09.06 OFF TO A FLYER!
Congratulations to the U10 (Assassins) who, with a new look team for this year, got their pre-season schedule off to a flying start - with victory in the Lower Beeding 6-a-side tournament today.
Tournament reporter, Bruce Boychuk writes:
"The whole squad played fantastic football in whatever configuration and position they were asked, throughout the six matches. They played as a team and were all outstanding. Congratulations to Jason Rabbetts for his first trophy as coach..."
18.09.06 SETTING THE PACE
Let's hear it for the U11s! Just two games into the new season and playing the 11-a-side game for the first time, both the U11As and Bs find themselves with maximum points and joint top of their respective Epsom and Ewell Divisions. For the U11As there was a 3-0 win at Anglo Saxon, whilst the Bs beat Horsley 2-0 on the Big Field. There's a long way to go - but the early signs are good for Simon Coffey's squad.
The U12 Girls are also setting the pace, maintaining their 100% record to emerge as early-season leaders of the Surrey County Girls League - in their first year of competitive football. Brockham's Girls team did it the hard way, recovering from two goals down to win 4-3 - all four goals from Tilly Leney.
Credit also goes to the U15As who currently top the Horsham and District League. The 5-2 win at Roffey ensured maximum points from the first two games with no fewer than eleven goals scored already.
25.09.06 CUPS AND SORCERERS
The magic of the cup came to Brockham this weekend - and it was the Badgers who were the knock-out wizards. Three of our four sides in Cup action made it safely through to the next round. The U11As must take great credit, for beating higher league opposition Ashtead Colts 4-1 in the Surrey Cup First Round. The result also maintains their 100% record in their first season of 11-a-side football.
The U12 Girls also produced a strong performance with a 7-3 victory over Tooting and Mitcham in their League Cup Preliminary Round. And the U10 Crusaders saved their first win of the season for when it really mattered - negotiating their way past Bookham Colts 4-1 in a first round cup tie.
The U14As were one of two Brockham cup finalist teams last season. Unfortunately there'll be no repeat for them this season in the Surrey County League Cup, as they went out at the hands of Sandgate.
Elsewhere, the U15As made it three wins on the spin with a 8-1 home league win over Steyning. Indeed, it's been a good month for coach Gordon Walker, who also manages Brockham's U12 Girls and has a 100% record in his six games so far! There was also a second excellent league win for the U17s, who came away from West Sutton Rangers with a 10-2 victory. The U14Bs were 6-0 winners at Ewhurst and the U10 Assassins earned their first points of the season, in their second Epsom and Ewell League fixture, by beating Old Coulsdon Colts B.
