02.04.06 THE GREAT ESCAPE
They left it late - but it was comfortable in the end. Congratulations to the U11 (Whites) who escaped relegation on the final day of their season. They pulled off their third win of the league campaign, a 6-3 victory at already-relegated Copthorne. It was enough to lift the Brockham side out of the bottom two with a couple of points to spare.
The U13As also have reason to be pleased with their weekend's work. They returned to winning ways - and also returned to the top of the Epsom and Ewell Premier Division. But, with four games to play and just three points separating the top three, the Championship promises to go down to the wire.
11.04.06 FAIR PLAY TO THE UNDER 11s
Brockham Badgers' reputation for producing not just competitive teams, but sporting ones too, has been enhanced by the Under 11s.
It's been announced that the U11 (Black) squad has been awarded this season's U11 Fair Play Award by the Horsham and District League. The trophy for the club - and individual trophies for the boys - will be awarded at Broadbridge Heath on Saturday 28th April. Congratulations to the coach, Bryan Bletso , and the entire team on an extremely creditable achievement.
In common with many of our teams, the U11s have been enjoying an Easter break on the pitch. However, the past week has provided an opportunity for some of our sides to catch up on league action. The U14As played two games in three days but were more than up to the job - taking a maximum six points. The U12Bs have also played twice in a week, but were less fortunate with their results.
The U12As moved into second place in the league with a 2-1 win at Southwater, whilst the U13As earned a point from a goalless draw at Epsom - enough to keep them in top spot in the Epsom and Ewell Premier Division.
12.04.06 BATTLE OF HASTINGS
The U9s and U10s have
performed strongly, taking on teams from throughout southern
England and Wales, in their end-of-season Battle of Hastings Tour
2006.
And even though they failed to emerge as Conquerors, they
fought bravely in their first-ever visit to the Sports Club International
tournament, held over a long weekend of 7-10 April at the Combe Haven
Holiday Park.
All three Brockham sides, made up of players who don't all normally play in the same team, secured top-half finishes in their respective leagues, and received trophies from Sky Sports' Chris Kamara. In another 'first', the boys left behind the club's traditional black and white stripes, taking to the field in a specially commissioned strip.
23.04.06 END-OF-SEASON FOOTBALL FEAST!
After a harsh winter leading to many postponements, the pressure has been on for Brockham Badgers teams in the Horsham League to complete their fixtures ahead of next weekend's Cup finale.
With the sort of fixture pile-up that makes Premiership Managers squeak, the U15s have completed three games in five days. And they've been more than up-to-the job...winning all three and extending their unbeaten league run to a staggering fifteen games. It's unfortunate that results elsewhere have denied them the chance of a second-place finish - the least such a good run surely deserves!
Glory still awaits the U11As. After a good away win on Saturday, victory in their last game on Monday night will clinch second place and promotion to the top Division next year. Credit too to the U12Bs. Despite a tough season ending in relegation, they still found the character to notch up their fourth league win in a Tuesday evening game at home to Halsford.
In a busy week, there have also been morale-boosing victories for the U16s and U14As ahead of their Cup Finals next Satuday (scroll down below for details and news of how to join the Brockham support!) Congratulations are already due to the U16s - their victory secured second place in the league. The U14Bs and U13Bs have also notched up wins.
23.04.06 THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
As the season reaches its conclusion, two Brockham sides are in with a chance of Cup glory.
The U14s and U16s have made it through to the final of their respective league cups - to be played on Saturday 29th April.
Brockham Badgers U14s will be taking on Storrington Vipers for the President's Cup, and the U16s will be looking to bring home the Edwin Hill Cup after their final clash against Broadbridge Heath.
Everyone is welcome to come along and add their support to the cause. The finals will be played at the Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre, Wickhurst Lane, RH12 3YS (Click here for a map) as part of a day of youth cup football. The U14s kick off at 1.45pm and the U16s at 5.30pm. Admission is just £1 per adult.
