A trip to sunny Southwater brought an excellent game of football. The first half saw attempts from both teams, but without a breakthrough until Walton ran down the line and made a well-timed pass to Nicholson. He then weaved his way through the defence, passing the ball over to the returning boot of Walton, who kicked home to give the Badgers the lead.
Morrison was called upon in goal, as Southwater counter-attacked. Two massive saves, one at full stretch was worthy of any Premiership side! The Badgers' midfield continued to push forward, but there was no further score before half-time, although worthy attacks were thwarted by the Southwater defence and goalkeeper.
In the second half, early pressure from Brockham kept the Southwater keeper busy but he was up to the job and twice saved certain goals. Mackrell then chased through midfield, outwitting two defenders and forcing home a great strike for a 2-0 lead. The Badgers were then on the up and chasing every ball from defence, through midfield, with crosses coming in thick and fast. Killner was unfortunate not to convert one and Mackrell hit the bar.
The goalkeepers on both sides continued to prove their worth. Morrison lived up to expectations with his bravery on the edge of the box, making a one-on-one save from a big Southwater forward. The defence remained strong but Brockham conceded a goal with five minutes to go.
A game played in good spirit throughout was a pleasure to watch, with some excellent football from both teams.
