Brockham
Badgers U11a 5 - 1 Heron Way
Badgers
U11A maintained their excellent form with a good, but hard fought
win over Heron Way to keep up their search for second place and promotion.
The
scoreline perhaps flattered Brockham, but good performances from keeper
Henry Warne as well as from the front line and midfield at crucial
times secured another victory.
Mitch Ward put Badgers 1-0
up early on, but Warne was forced into a triple save soon after
as, somehow, Heron Way failed to equalise. A mistake by the visiting
keeper let in Stephen Kehl to maintain his rich goalscoring form double
the lead, but a well-deserved goal from Heron Way just before half
time made it 2-1 at the interval.
The second half saw Heron Way
step up a gear and it was Dylan Peters, in front of his back four,
who stood out as Badgers protected their lead. A late challenge
by Tim Whybrow led to Warne making a good penalty save - and
this proved to be the turning point. Brockham seemed to be spurred
into action by Heron Way's failure to equalise, with midfielder Henry
Hill, Ryan Winter and Aaron Clark stepping forward to urge the side
on. Clark made it 3-1 midway through the half, with Ryan Winter
adding a fourth to make the game safe shortly after. Then, as
Heron Way tired, Kehl wrapped up victory with his second of the morning, to
make the final score 5-1.
Roffey Robins Athletic
1 - 4 Brockham Badgers U11 (White)
With just two
games to climb out of the relegation places, Brockham got off to a
dream start when they stole the ball from the Robins' kick off and passed
it down the right wing for Bill Rowlands to score his first goal of
the season from just inside the box - with just fifteen seconds on
the clock!
Roffey responded well and, after five minutes, hit
the back of the Brockham net only to have the goal disallowed for
offside. This was the only time in the first half that keeper Jack
Whetnall was threatened as Brockham’s defence of Michael Carty, Jamie
Davidson, Joe Stradling and Callum Tilling were in total control.
In fact, Brockham dominated the play in all areas with some superb
interactive play from the whole team - surely their best performance
of the season.
Roffey’s keeper made some superb saves and it
wasn’t until the seventeenth minute that he was beaten again when
Otto Young fired a well-taken corner into the box for Liam Doyle to
hammer into the bottom right corner. Shortly after, George Duckworth
forced another fine save - but Ben Stokoe picked up the ball from
the keeper’s kick, just inside the Roffey half, to run back past two
defenders and slot home from eight yards out, giving Brockham
a comfortable three goal lead at the break.
The second half saw
Brockham continue to pressurise with midfielders Josh Caldwell, Daniel
Hoad, Doyle and Young interacting well and making some very intelligent
plays through to the front men. When Hoad was brought down on the
edge of the box, the Badgers were unlucky not to increase their lead
from the free kick, with the ball just inching over the bar.
Roffey were getting more into the game now and started
to put some good moves together. Their centre forward made some well-timed
runs through the defence, keeping Whetnall on his toes.
Brockham’s
fourth goal came when Rowlands ran in from the half way line only
to have his shot parried out to Nathan Acheson, who then struck the
post with his shot. The rebound came out to Stokoe to strike home
his second of the match. The last five minutes saw Roffey mount some
sustained pressure forcing a string of corners, one of which resulted
in a consolation goal. Moments from the end Roffey nearly scored a
second but Whetnall was in brilliant form, tipping the ball over the
bar from a superb header.
The result leaves the U11 (Whites)
requiring just a point from their final game against bottom-side Copthorne
to beat the drop.
Lad-of-the-Match: Bill Rowlands
Lingfield
Youth 10 - 0 Brockham Badgers U11 (Black)
Report
by Bryan Bletso
Third placed Badgers U11 (Black) were on the
end of a master class in attacking football by second-placed Lingfield; the
home manager readily admitting that their performance was the best
of the season as they simply made their championship-chasing class
tell.
The heavy defeat was cushioned by the fact that, apart
from a ten minute spell in the first half, Badgers demonstrated their
desire to battle and learn from the game - something that will
no doubt stand them in good stead for next season.
On a full
size pitch with full size goals, Badgers started brightly and, for
ten minutes, matched the home side well but a lapse in defensive concentration
let in Lingfield twice in quick succession. Now Lingfield had their
tale's up and their attacking play was a pleasure to watch.
They took advantage of their familiarity with the large pitch to put
Brockham on the back foot and score four more in a rampant first-half performance.
In
the first league game of this season, Badgers had lost narrowly in
the final minutes at home to Lingfield and, indeed, had chances
to win that match. This time, a victory was rather unlikely but the second
half performance restored some pride as they battled away. George
Corfield, in goal, was once more in exemplary form despite his
diminutive size compared to that of the goals. With defenders
Robbie Ventham and David Atkinson giving their all and central midfielders
Matt Gill and Thomas Bletso adapting well to the game in the face
of their impressive hosts, Badgers were unlucky not to get on to the
score sheet on three of four occasions - Oliver Curtis, Henry
Smith and Toby Dowle all went close.
At the other end,
Lingfield were clinical with the chances that fell their way and,
although the final scoreline did not reflect the second half commitment
of the Badgers, the team could only compliment the
home side on a fine performance and, most importantly, learn
from the defeat for next season.

The second half saw more efforts, but there
were no further additions to the score. The fact that Wisborough Green
barely troubled the Badgers' stand-in keeper, Harry Sheppard,
throughout the match bears witness to the fantastic job done in
defence by the ever improving back-line of Dan Chipps, Kyle Soane,
Ross Murray and Player of the Week Harry Knight, who mopped up everything
thrown at them.
Mention must be made of the remaining midfielders
Nathan Baker, Luke Russell-Smith, Will King, Peter Higson
and Jamie Wood, who all contributed fully to a veryconvincing display against a team to whom they had lost earlier
in the season.
It looks good for this squad, going into their
final three league games against teams just above them in the
table.
The U14Bs came
into this Match unbeaten in the last two games and carried on where
they left off last outing by storming into a four goal lead by the
interval.
The first on seven minutes, from Ghilas Lounis coming
in from the left to slip it past the keeper, was followed on fourteen
minutes by Tom Spink producing a copy cat effort. The goal of the
day was a 'typical' Kyle Soane solo run on 28 minutes. He collected
the ball on his own goal line to beat numerous despairing opposition
players before gliding the ball into the net from six yards.
The final goal came on 32 minutes when James Boyman contolled
the ball in the area and was able to take it wide of the
Wisborough keeper.

End of season drama at Walton-on-the-Hill
in the battle for second place in the Tadworth League and, with it,
qualification for the Champions League competition. The
U9 (Whites) began the day in third, a point behind second-placed Milford
Pumas. They had to win against Walton for the first-time
in two years - and hope that Milford failed to get a win at home to
Priory Panthers.
Manager Jason Rabbetts knew there was nothing
Brockham could do about events over the other side of Surrey and made
sure he had his team fully focused on their own task. A highly
disciplined warm-up was followed by a team talk stressing the need
for concentration.
And it worked. From the kick-off, the Badgers
came flying out of the traps and went on to turn in the most
committed, passionate and skilful team performance - that had
the watching crowd purring with delight. James Rabbetts
on the left wing was inspirational from the off, striding forward
and tracking back to win balls in midfield, whilst Sam Lloyd was at
his

so, naturally, a pre-match huddle!

most effective
- fierce in the tackle to cut off the supply to Walton's attack and always
looking for to make an early pass through the centre. At the back,
Tom Charman and Archie Knight were a formidable partnership, taking
up perfect positions and moving across to cover for each other. Going
forward, Cameron Boychuk was full of running and never gave up when
battling for the ball, whilst Daniel Mahony - although closely
shadowed throughout by two large defenders - was a constant threat.
Nevertheless,
on a large pitch and playing up a steep slope against a Walton side
defending in numbers, chances looked like they would be at a premium.
In the first ten minutes, Daniel broke through the defence but
blazed a shot over the bar, and a fierce first-time strike a long
way out from James Rabbetts smashed into the crossbar. Walton
had been restricted to just a single opportunity - a highly dangerous
cross whipped into the box was met at the far post no more than a
yard out. It looked a certain goal until, in a flash, keeper
Jamie Luckins threw himself bravely at the Walton striker's feet to
smother the ball.
As the half wore on. Brockham were beginning
to pitch camp in the Walton half but they found their goalkeeper and
defenders in inspired form and it remained goalless at the interval.
The
second half started in similar fashion. Goal line clearances, point
blank saves and a couple of mis-hit strikes conspired to stop Brockham
putting the ball in the net and it began to look like it might be
'one of those days'. But if the supporting parents were getting edgy,
the Brockham boys on the pitch were far more cool. In a remarkably
disciplined performance, they remained patient and continued to exchange
the ball in incisive attacking moves. Whilst, at the back, Henry
Livett showed fierce commitment, winning the ball and dribbling out
before launching it forward with great accuracy.
Mid-way through
the half, the breakthrough came. Winning the ball on the right and
taking it forward, Daniel Mahony then paused to pick the moment
for a perfectly weighted angled pass into the path of Sam Lloyd,
tearing into the box at the far post. Even then, Walton's goalie parried
the ball twice at point-blank range. But this time, Brockham
weren't to be denied, and Sam forced the ball in at the third attempt.
Walton
responded from the restart but the marking throughout was superb and
Oliver Vaughan, on as a defensive substitute, refused to be beaten.
Jamie Luckins continued to command his penalty area with great maturity
and also distributed the ball fantastically to start further
attacks. And this time, the floodgates opened. A cross from Daniel
picked out Cameron Boychuk unmarked in the area and he calmly took
his time to slot the ball into the corner. It was Daniel who provided
again when he threaded a cross through the tightest of gaps for James
Rabbetts to smash into the net in his customary style.
The game
ended 3-0...and it woudn't have been unjust if the scoreline had been
double that. However, Brockham found out how cruel football can be
a couple of hours later, when it was learned that rivals Milford had
sneaked a 1-0 victory and edged the Badgers out of second place by
the narrowest of margins.
Nevertheless, the final league match
was a passionate performance that the boys could be immensely
proud of. They had real team spirit, strength, passing ability and
skill. They had undoubtedly saved their best for last and can also
take pride in their third-place finish in the Tadworth A League.
Player
of the Week: Tom Charman - didn't put a foot wrong as he organised
the defence, kept the Walton attack in his pocket and, by the end,
had them restricted to long-range speculative shots.

Under 8s
Brockham Badgers
U8 (Blue) 3 - 1 Mickleham Marvels
Report by
Tony Moriarty
This comfortable win took the U8 (Blues), already
Champions, six points clear at the top of the Tadworth B League.
In
the absence of regular captain Alfie Edwards, Adam Moriarty took responsibility
for leading the team and his battling performance resulted in the
first goal - a neat right-footed shot from six yards following a determined
run from Tommy Gill.
Jack Langan, playing his first full game, made
use of his strength to full effect in midfield. Ben Cox got stuck
in, as did Rhett Flashman and Tom Runacres. Ollo Hounsfield had little
to do in goal but, when called upon, looked safe and composed. Joel
Ross-Merrick played well in defence.
The second half saw Tommy Gill
snatch two typically opportune goals to put the result beyond doubt.
A late flourish saw Mickleham get a goal back but, by now, the Badgers were
cruising and victory was never in doubt.
Star Player: Michael Tsimekis
- Michael was dominant in defence and worked well in midfield after
half-time to set up a good win for Brockham. Well played!

Brockham Badgers U10b 4 -
1 Hook Youth
The U10Bs made a great start to
this match when Brown carried the ball down the left wing and sent
in a teasing cross
for Hetzel to finish at the far post.
Soon
after, Badgers had to make a change when Brown received treatment
for an injury to his hand. He was replaced by Baty who sent over
two dangerous free kicks in quick succession. One of these was
met superbly by Moriarty, but his shot went agonisingly over
the bar. However, just before the break, Brockham started to
lose their way and Hook got a deserved equaliser.
In the
second half, Badgers were still struggling to get a grip on the game
and changed their formation several times. With Bletso down the right,
Hetzel up front and the re-introduction of Brown down the left, things
started to happen again. Good work from Bletso ended with another
clinical finish from the now-prolific Hetzel. Bletso was sending in
cross after cross and a hard low one was met with a solid side foot
from Brown to make it 3-1.
The final goal came with Brown's
second of the match. He jinked past two players before unleashing
an unstoppable shot past the keeper, who barely had time to blink
as the back of the net bulged.
Brockham should be proud of their
second-half display, especially the midfield who protected their defence
and created chances for the forwards. It is good to see Moriaty
back to his best and Baty improving with every game. Well done to
all of the lads.
