Brockham Badgers U15   1 - 1   Horsham Sparrows
Report by Nick Thorp

The U15's took on a strong side from Horsham in a close fought match, with the teams finally sharing the points between them.

The game got off to a strong start on a bitterly cold morning, with both sides creating chances and trying to gain an initial advantage. For half-an-hour,it was hard fought, evenly balanced and hotly contested. However, after 35 minutes, the Badgers finally managed to break the deadlock. Sam Spall used his speed and strength to make an excellent run down the left wing, dribbling past the Sparrows defenders and beating the Horsham keeper, who could not save the strong shot.

Brockham kept the attacking pressure up and, just before half time, Adam Davison produced an excellent header from a corner, with the Horsham keeper only just managing to keep it out of the net.

After a strong pep talk at the interval, the Badgers came back onto the pitch refreshed and reinvigorated, and soon got back into the match with some intelligent passing between the attacking duo of  Owen and Mitchell - backed up by strong support from midfield players Joe Filgate, Adam Davison and Dean Knowles.

The two teams looked evenly matched, with both sides playing well, until a mistake by the Badgers defence let the Sparrows forwards through and they levelled the match at 1-1.

The final ten minutes of the game saw Brockham applying increased pressure, trying to break through Horsham’s defence, but to no avail. Two last minute Nathan Owen corners led to headers from Eddie Granville and Sam Spall - both of which came very close to finding the back of the net. Again, they were well saved by the Horsham keeper.

In the end, the draw was a fair result as both teams had played some excellent football. It's now nine games in a row without defeat for the Badgers, who need to keep up the momentum to hold onto second place in the league.

Lad-of-the-Match:  Adam Davison

Brockham Badgers U14a   8 - 1   Billingshurst
Report by Gordon Walker
Four goals for Jonathan Ellis - along with one each for Jordan Wood, Alex Spooner, Justin Reeve and Michael Shaw - meant that, in the end, Brockham won this match comprehensively.

That said, the game was not as easy as the score would indicate because the majority of the goals were scored in the last quarter when Billingshurst began to tire and their marking became less effective.

Cranleigh Hawks   1 - 4   Brockham Badgers U14b
Brockham Badgers U13a   0 - 1   Epsom Eagles

Brockham Badgers U13b   3 - 1   Maidenbower Colts
Report by Martin Bangs
On a cold and windy morning on the Big Field, an excellent all round performance delivered this team's first-ever consecutive hat- trick of wins.

With the wind behind them, Brockham swept towards Maidenbower's goal throughout the first half.  The left side of Penny and Sourris interlinking sweetly with the impressive drive of both Parker and player of the match Knowles. With Goddard and Robins offering similar quality down the right, Brockham were looking exciting whenever they had the ball. Mackrell and Lloyd offered plenty of options, but the team's superiority took a while to gain any reward.

Mackrell's superb lift over an advancing keeper opened the scoring with Knowles slotting home a second just before half time. However, with the strong wind, the Badgers had not turned fine possession into as much an advantage as they would have liked.

Sure enough, the Colts responded with a spirited second half performance and the game became more testing for the excellent and alert Dunleavy in goal.

Some fluid play by both teams provided a real ebb and flow to the contest and a fantastic strike by a Maidenbower midfielder offered the Colts a lifeline at 2-1. But thereafter, the Badgers really stepped up to the challenge. With Cooke and Brightman shoring up the consistently excellent defence, marshalled by Bangs and van Acoleyen, Goddard was released into attack and a precise freekick from Bangs set him up to restore the two-goal advantage and seal the victory.

Brockham Badgers U12a   2 - 1   Maidenbower Colts
Report by Sandra Mackrell
The brisk wind blowing across the Big Field at Brockham proved difficult for both the Badgers and the Colts to pitch their skills against. Within five minutes, a move from defender Tsimekis via Murrell, Nicholson and a brilliant pass from Wright into the path of Clarke made the first goal for Brockham. Manager Wright, constant in praise, encouraged the lads to push forward and Murrell and Smith were unfortunate that their attempts didn't add to the scoreline.

The Colts were battling uphill, but a mistake by the Badgers in midfield led to an equaliser from a fantastic shot to the top corner.  The Badgers were quick to retaliate with Murrell popping up to meet a Clarke pass and regain the lead.

After half time, the Badgers on the downhill were encouraged to pile on the pressure, but the wind played a significant part in the lack of goals as Clarke hit the bar and Smith struck wide of the upright. In the meantime, there were saving tackles from Allsop and a number of class saves from stand-in keeper Holmes, to keep the score 2-1 to the Badgers.   A hard fought match.

Lad-of-the-Match: Jack Allsop - for some saving tackles

Broadbridge Heath   5 - 1   Brockham Badgers U12b
Ockley Acorns   1 - 2   Brockham Badgers U11a
The U11As completed a good 'backs to the wall' victory at top of the table Ockley.  Without three players and seeing midfielder Sven Van Acoleyen injure an ankle after just two minutes, Badgers were forced on to the defensive early on, as Ockley looked for the double over their local rivals.

But it was Brockham who took the lead, midway through the first half, through Aaron Clark although Ockley soon drew level.

The second half saw Ockley dominate possession, but Badgers' back four of Alex Postles, Maxim Harper, Dominic Nicholls and Tim Whybrow were playing with real determination in their best defensive display of the season, whilst keeper Henry Warne was magnificent behind his defence, showing real confidence.

Against the run of play, Badgers scored again. Midway through the half, Ryan Winter crossed well for Stephen Kehl to pounce on a mistake in the Ockley defence and put Brockham back in front.

Ockley threw everything at the Brockham defence in the last fifteen minutes and narrowly failed to win a penalty with just minutes to go when Whybrow was adjudged to have fouled just outside the box.  Then, in the final stages, Warne made a stunning save by diving to his right to claw the ball away when the Ockley shot looked goal bound.

Badgers hung on to record a great victory and are going from strength to strength as the season reaches its climax.

Brockham Badgers U11 (White)   1 - 1   Kirdford
Brockham Badgers U10a   1 - 0   Bookham Colts
Walton Warriors   0 - 3   Brockham Badgers U8 (Red)
Report by Tony Moriarty
As I watched this game it was interesting to see the wind-change in the boys' attitude and awareness; it was like all of a sudden the penny had dropped. Gone was the cavalier, full-steam-ahead approach - here was composure, teamwork, working together, tackling back. Just great to see!

The Walton pitch is on a bit of a slope to say the least and our boys started on the receiving end of a downhill onslaught. But with a slightly adjusted formation we coped admirably. I think the only time Jamie Addison, our goalkeeper, touched the ball in the first half was to collect it from the hedge after a wayward shot by the Warriors went well wide of his goal!

Even so 0-0 at half-time still meant we had some work to do to get the result our performance deserved.

Some half-time positional changes saw Andy Kehl move out to right midfield which resulted in two similar goals as, on both occasions, Andy smashed the ball in from twenty yards. A shot that Walton's keeper just could not handle went in for the first and, minutes later, a similar move saw a similar shot that took a deflection off a Warriors defender. When interviewed afterwards Andy said, "Well, it was going in anyway!".

Clever positioning by Tom Killner made the result a certainty as he collected a wild opposition clearance from a superb Jack Stradling corner and calmly slotted the ball home, through a crowded penalty area.

A top display boys - keep it up!

Star Player: Andy Kehl - Not easy to pick one player this week, but Andy (captain for the day) deserves the Star Player Award for a fantastic all-round display. Well done!

Walton Wasps   1 - 3   Brockham Badgers U8 (Blue)
Report by Tony Moriarty
On a bitterly cold morning up at Walton-on-the-Hill, our boys knew they faced a tricky task against a resurgent Wasps team who knew that they had to beat us to retain any lingering hopes of winning the title.

But this was the day our awesome Blues put in an unstoppable team performance worthy of champions!

Ed Hetzel, in goal, looked composed and confident. Laurence Dean played an absolute blinder in defence - outstanding! Michael Tsimekis was solid and composed - as usual! Adam Moriarty put in a best-ever performance he should be proud of. Alfie 'Captain Courageous' Edwards continued his brilliant form. James Hawkins had a great game in midfield. Harrison Cain showed more than a trick or two to bamboozle the opposition defence  - and score a cracking goal. Tommy 'Two Goal' Gill is Brockham's answer to Michael Owen!

Really well done boys - you have all put in a lot of effort this season and I'm proud of each and every one of you!

Star Player: Adam Moriarty - Played with composure, maturity and assurance in a magnificent performance. Well done!

Gas United   0 - 4   Brockham Badgers U10b

Carshalton Saints   0 - 2   Brockham Badgers U10c
Report by Duncan Hanwell

On the last league match of the season, the U10Cs came away with three points and a clean sheet against bottom of the league Carshalton Saints.

In very difficult windy conditions on a small pitch, the game did not go entirely as expected, with Brockham’s attempts to play the ball forward often thwarted by the conditions and some determined defending during a goalless first half.

In the early stages of the second half, Carshalton almost scored twice, but Simon Watson pulled off a couple of very opportune saves to keep the Badgers in the match. It wasn’t until the latter stages that Brockham secured victory. Daniel Hall, drafted in up front, nicked the ball and played it back to captain Tim Hines to blast home from the edge of the box. Hall then scored his first goal of the season as the Carshalton defensive concentration lapsed. In the final minute, Jamie Hanwell came close to scoring a spectacular third - the ball going millimetres wide.

So the final match ended a good season with victory and gives the U10Cs a commendable 26 points. Two matches were forfeited through illness and a further match was played with a depleted team, giving away 9 goals.

Next season we are moving to 11-a-side, with the boys having to play their way into the team. With the 'B' team likely to end in the top three of their league, the competition is sure to be healthy and we look forward to the boys’ continued success.

Lad of the Match: Simon Watson - two opportune saves to keep the Badgers alive.

A scorching free-kick flies past the keeper but rattles the upright (top) as the U10As battle in a tight second-half (bottom left) and also have plenty of defending to do (bottom right) before earning a narrow victory over Bookham.

Horsham Tigers   2 - 3   Brockham Badgers U11 (Black)
The U11 (Black) team went third in the league with a great victory at Horsham Tigers, Henry Smith scoring a fine individual goal in the final minutes to secure the three points.

Badgers had the vast majority of the play and chances in the first half, but still somehow found themselves behind at the interval.  After some close chances for Brockham from Toby Dowle and Alex Marshall, Horsham took the lead on ten minutes with their first attack. But good work from central midfielder Matt Gill put in Oliver Curtis, who levelled Brockham.

Badgers failed to take advantage of several more good chances in the remainder of the half, before Horsham restored their lead just before the break.  Indeed, it could have got worse for Brockham as, right on the half time whistle, keeper George Corfield pulled out a great save which proved decisive by the end of the game.

The second half was a more even affair as Horsham kicked with the wind, but a strong central midfield performance from captain Thomas Bletso saw Badgers gain control, whilst Robbie Ventham and David Atkinson worked well as a pair in the centre of defence to keep Horsham's dangerous strikers quiet. Tom Kinsey was also having his best game at left back for several weeks and, when Gill equalised with ten minutes to go, Brockham were on top and looking more likely to secure the win.

The third and winning goal arrived when good work from Alex Ward and George Heymann set up an attack for Smith, who went round several defenders before slotting home from a tight angle.
Another raid down the left wing (left) and pressure on the ball (middle and right) earn the U11 (Whites) a valuable point with just two games to go in the battle at the bottom of the Horsham U11C league.

Brockham Girls (U11s)
Brockham Badgers Girls (U11)   3 - 0   Old Walcountians Girls (U11)
Report by Gordon Walker

Brockham were hosts again to their good friends, Old Walcountians.

In an extremely close first half, Rachael Woodman was solid as usual in defence and, although both Jenny Souris and Ella Mothee came close to breaking the deadlock, in the end only a good diving save from Emilly Walker kept the score nil-nil at half time.

In the second half, Walcountians started off the brighter of the two sides with Mirriam Mizzi and Alice Beadle running well from midfield to cover both defence and then attack. However, ten minutes into the second half, Kate Walker scored her first goal for Brockham, a fine shot into the top right corner of the goal. Shortly after, top scorer Tilly Leney, ran more than half the length of the pitch and finished well to make the score two-nil.

With less than ten minutes remaining, Ellie Rowlands in goal made a brilliant save from a rocket of a shot and, as the ball then bounced towards the Brockham goal, Kate Walker did very well to get back and clear off the line. Shortly after, Tilly Leney scored her second from close range to wrap up the match.

Another good performance, although Walcountians can consider themselves unlucky again.
