Brockham Badgers U14b   1 - 1   Lingfield
Warren Mead   1 - 6   Brockham Badgers U13a
Report by Graham Mackrell

On a very difficult playing surface, more akin to an ice rink than a football pitch, the U13As came away with a convincing win at Warren Mead.

Andy Higgins opened the scoring after two minutes, firing a header into the top corner from a superb Luke Holland corner. Jordan Andrews made it 2-0 as he provided a neat finish to a Kieran Mackrell cross. It was three when Andrews' shot was parried by the Mead keeper, only for Holland to be on hand to tap in from close range. As the half drew to a close, the Badgers forced another corner, from whoch Holland drilled the ball in and Crosbie headed powerfully past the keeper.

Into the second half and the Badgers produced the move of the game. Callum Mackrell flicked the ball on for Holland, who floated a cross in for Andrews to head back past the keeper - only to see the flag raised for offside. Minutes later he was back on the scoresheet, converting a goal mouth scramble with the ball eventually going in off the underside of the bar.

It was 5-0 but Warren Mead starting coming back into the game. They finally got their reward with a floated free kick from the edge of the box, which gave Badgers' keeper Hardy no chance. As the Brockham lost their shape, it looked likely that Mead would score another but, with virtually the final kick of the game, Joshua Bayliss created and scored his own goal. He ran half the length of the pitch, jinking his way into the box, before firing into the bottom corner.

Lad-of-the-Match: Joshua Bayliss – Superb defending and a brilliant solo goal

Heron Olympic   0 - 1   Brockham Badgers U13c

Lingfield   3 - 2   Brockham Badgers U12a
Brockham Badgers U11a   5 - 2   Royal United

The U11As secured their best win of the season against a strong Royal United side, hitting five second-half goals before seeing their opponents gamely make a late comeback to reduce the arrears.

An even first half saw the two sides goalless at the interval. For the Badgers, keeper Henry Warne made a couple of fine saves to keep his goal intact while striker Mitch Ward almost put the Brockham ahead when rounding the keeper - but his shot just shaved the wrong side of the post.

In the second half, Brockham really got to grips with the game. Three quick goals earned a winning margin.  First, Ryan Winter's shot was well saved by the visiting keeper, only for Stephen Kehl to latch on to the rebound to make it 1-0.  Then a rare mistake by the impressive Royal United keeper saw Winter tap home from close range, before a Sven van Acoleyen flick was converted by midfielder Henry Hill with a firm left foot drive. It was 3-0 and it got even better for Badgers as Winter blasted his second of the game into the Royal United net. He then picked up a hat trick and made it 5-0 to Brockham, when he took advantage of a great cross from Kehl.

To give Royal United credit, they did not give up and two one-on-ones with the keeper gave saw them net two late goalsm to claw their way back into the game. But, in general, Badgers defenders Dylan Peters and lad-of-the-match Alex Postles, along with holding midfielder Aaron Clark, did well to control key areas of the pitch and contributed greatly to a good Badgers home win.

Brockham Badgers U11 (Black)   3 - 2   Greenway
Report by Bryan Bletso

The U11 (Blacks) went fourth in the league, one point behind third placed Greenway, after showing good character to come back from 2-1 down and snatch victory in the final ten minutes.

Without regular stalwart defender David Atkinson, Badgers fielded George Heymann along side Robbie Ventham in the centre of defence, with Tom Kinsey and joint lad-of-the-match Max Ruff as full backs. In front of the ever-impressive George Corfield in goal, Brockham's defence was rock solid in the first half, with Greenway restricted to just a few efforts on goal.  With the other joint lad-of-the-match Oliver Curtis, Henry Smith and Alex Ward lively up front, the first half ended goalless.

The second half saw the central midfield pairing of Thomas Bletso and Matthew Gill become more and more influential, with fellow midfielders Alex Marshall and Toby Dowle breaking dangerously down the flanks, and it was no surprise when Oliver Curtis muscled his way into the box and opened the scoring, five minutes after the interval.

It looked like Badgers would grow in confidence following the goal, but Greenway came back well and scored from a penalty on ten minutes.  As Badgers seemed to stand back, Greenway took the lead. A great corner was headed home as, for once, the Brockham defence was caught napping.

But the Badgers reacted well to falling behind. Henry Smith won and converted a penalty to pull level with ten minutes to go.  The equaliser saw Badgers' tails up and Oliver Curtis notched his second of the game - and the winner - with 5 minutes to go, latching on to a through ball to score, despite the attention of three Greenway defenders.

The game was not over then by any stretch of the imagination, as Brockham had to withstand a late Greenway surge and, in the final minutes, Badgers' keeper Corfield pulled out a great reaction save from point blank range to earn the win.
Brockham Badgers U10a   4 - 0   Wandgas
Report by Simon Winter

This was a very satisfying performance by Brockham U10As at home to bottom side Wandgas. For once the Badgers were able to convert their pressure into goals, although it took a full twenty minutes for them to break the visitors’ resistance. As the Badgers were missing a couple of players, Josh Brown and William Bletso were drafted in and it was they who combined in a flowing move from the back, exchanging passes down the left wing, before Brown cut into the box and found Bletso again, who scored a fine goal from a tight angle.

The same two players were involved in goal number two early in the second half. Brown went on a strong, mazy run into the box, his shot was kept out but Bletso was there again to knock it in.

This seemed to break the spirit of the Wandgas players, who had acquitted themselves well up to then, again highlighting the even standard of the Epsom and Ewell First Division. Bertie Edwards-Hedges broke down the left and delivered an excellent firm cross into the box. William Mahoney timed his run perfectly and, in his stride, struck the ball low into the net for 3-0. The fourth followed quickly when Oli Winter dribbled towards goal and got a shot in, with Mahoney on hand again to force the ball home.

This was a victory built once again on a very solid defensive base. Matthew Higgins and Alex Nicholson were invariably in the right place to clear any danger and have made great strides this season in learning to pass the ball constructively out of defence.

Lad-of-the-Match: William Mahoney - Two goals and a very committed performance with drive on the right.

Brockham Badgers U10b   1 - 1   South Park C

South Park seemed stronger when these two teams last met (although the Badgers had won that game) and the visitors again just edged the first half - but Baty made several good challenges to keep the match goalless.

After making two changes, Brockham took the lead when Brown's through ball was expertly dispatched by Hodge, between the onrushing keeper's legs. Badgers looked like they would hold on for the victory and could have even extended their lead as the game entered the final stages. But it was not to be, as South Park equalized with three minutes to go, when their man-of-the-match ran down the left wing and squared unselfishly for his teammate to side foot home.

However, with little to choose between the two sides, the draw was a fair result.

Brockham Badgers U8 (Blue)   2 - 0   Priory Panthers
Report by Tony Moriarty

Having lost 4-1 at home to the U8 (Blues) earlier in the season, it was no surprise to see Priory set out a defensive formation for this fixture. It took our boys a while to work out a way through - but they did, with a goal in each half and little to worry about from the opposition forwards. And so it was that this turned out to be a fairly comfortable victory for our boys.

Towards the end of the first half, a sweeping move down the right and a low cross saw a Priory defender, threatened by two Brockham forwards bearing down on him, force the ball into his own net.

Midway through the second half, again a move started down the right, saw Tommy Gill one-on-one with the Priory goalkeeper. Despite the keeper's brave save, Andy Kehl was there to pick up the spillage and smash the ball into the back of the net, wrapping up a 2-0 victory.

Throughout this game, our defensive trio of goalkeeper Ollo Hounsfield, Michael Tsimekis and Louis Clark, were outstanding. Rhett Flashman, who came on on at the interval, showed some good work before being forced off after taking a knock. Adam Moriarty and Alfie Edwards hustled the midfield to spoil any sign of attack from their opponents.

Star Player: Not easy to pick this week with such a good TEAM performance - but, after much consideration, Louis Clark gets the nod for a top defensive display. Well done!

Horsham Tigers   2 - 8   Brockham Badgers U15

Another fine team performance gave the U15s their ninth league win on the spin.

It was a good start by the tow forwards, Nathan Owen and Sam Spall, who are really getting to know each other. With four goals from Nathan, three from Sam and Adam Davison also chipping in with one, the game was quickly under control.

Man-of-the-Match goes to the goalie, Mathew Hillson, for a couple of great saves at the end of the game as the midfield started to tire.  Still - can't grumble about that at 8-2 away from home!
Eight goals...nine wins - the U15s continue their storming league run with an 8-2 away victory.

Unofficial Cup Final:
Tadworth Tigers   0 - 3  Brockham Badgers U9 (Blue)
Report by Jean-Paul Jhugroo
Sponsored by Pizza Express

It's that time of year again - the Unofficial Cup Final between Brockham Badgers (Blue) and Tadworth Tigers. The invitation game started in 2005, when Tadworth won. This year, it was a different story.

After a final pitch inspection due to the hard frost, Badgers kicked off and started positively, applying pressure to keep Tadworth pinned back into their half of the pitch. Good passing out of defence led to Nathan Hughes unleashing a good shot on goal, which was well caught by Tadworth's keeper.

Tadworth began to push upfield themselves, but the Brockham Badgers defence was having none of it. Ben Butterworth came on for Jason Clarkson to add another defender and Brockham began to build once more, with Chris Walton starting an attack from defence. He passed a perfect ball to Nathan Hughes, who slotted it into the bottom right of the goal.

Badgers, glowing in confidence from the first goal, continued to pass freely. A direct pass by Ben Butterworth, between two Tadworth players, went to the feet of George Fenwick. He ran at the defence, laying off the ball to Nathan, who scored his second of the match.

Tadworth nearly capitalised as Brockham were slow from the restart and had their striker one-on-one with Lucas Fidgett, but he kept his cool and caught a ferocious shot.

The second half kicked off with Badgers playing with the same swagger as they did in the first half, but Tadworth made some further changes which led to a good period of possession and pressure. Brockham repsonded by bringing on Danesh Amin.

The victory was sealed when George Fenwick won the ball in midfield and ran past four opponents, before shooting a clinical finish into the back of the net. However, it took a save from Lucas Fidgett at point blank range to stop Tadworth pulling a goal back in the final minutes, as the Brockham defence began to tire.

The final whistle was met with cheers - not only had Badgers won the cup, but they had finally beaten Tadworth Tigers. A proud Chris Walton received the trophy. All credit goes to the team - they all worked extremely hard to keep another clean sheet.
