Storrington Vipers   2 - 9   Brockham Badgers U16
Brockham Badgers U15   6 - 1   Hurstpierpoint United
Brockham Badgers U14a   8 - 2   Heron Olympic

Wisborough Green   3 - 2   Brockham Badgers U14b
Report by Phil Sheppard

The case for goal line cameras was cast aside in this game by both sharp-eyed linesmen, as Wisborough's early and Brockham's late goalmouth scrambles were given without hesitation by the guys carrying the flags.

In a tight match throughout,  Wisbourough's early lead was held until half way through the second-half when Kyle Soane burst free from his defensive role and produced a solo effort straight from 'Strictly Come Dancing', firing home under the opposition's goalie.

Tension was mounting until five minutes before the end when, with the Badgers pushing for a winner, two Wisborough counter attacks stretched the Brockham defence and resulted in what seemed like the winning goals. Undaunted, Brockham rallied for one last effort and gained their just desserts when James Boyman pulled the scoreline back to 3-2.

With just the bare eleven players, no substitutes available, Brockham produced one of their gutsiest performances of the season and were very unfortunate to return home with no points.

Many thanks to the Wisborough Green parents for their very welcoming cuppas  on the frostiest morning of the season-so-far.
Brockham Badgers U13a   5 - 2   Corinthian Casuals  (Epsom and Ewell Youth League Cup Round 2)
Report by Graham Mackrell

The Badgers got off to a slow start, in a tentative opening on the slightly icy pitch at the Brockham Big Field. The Casuals seemed more alert and deserved the lead when they volleyed home from ten yards, with a fierce shot that our keeper Chris Hardy could only parry into the goal.

The goal spurred Brockham into action and, after ten minutes, we were level when a superb through ball from holding midfielder Chris Thurgood found Kieran Mackrell. He lob volleyed the keeper from 25 yards. With the Badgers now playing the better football, they soon moved into the lead. A Holland cross was handled in the Casuals' box and Mackrell duly dispatched the resulting penalty. A third goal was added just before half-time as Russ Harvey went on a solo run and crossed for lad-of-the-match Mackrell to tap home, completing his hat-trick.

After the break, the game ran into a quiet period with neither team dominating. Then Ali Robins made a good run and a telling cross for Jordan Andrews to knock the ball home and make it 4-1. Minutes later it was 4-2 as Josh Bayliss, having another great game at the back was adjudged to have handled in the area and the Casuals slotted the ball home from the spot. It could have been 4-3 but for a stunning full-length save from Hardy when a shot from the edge of the box seemed destined for goal.

With minutes to go the game was made safe, as stand-in left winger Andrew Higgins made another strong run and crossed for Holland, whose deflected shot made the final score 5-2 to Brockham. Next week sees another strong test for the Badgers, away to Staines Albion in the last 32 of the Surrey County Cup.

Lad-of-the-match: Kieran Mackrell – well taken goals, with good intelligent distribution and play.

Brockham Badgers U13b   4 - 0   Upper Beeding
Report by Chris Thomas

Rock solid defending from Brockham - with Van Acoleyen, Thomas, Bangs and Sourris all outstanding – meant that our keeper Dunleavy barely had a shot to save for the entire game. On this excellent platform, the boys crafted some fine moves and the ever-reliable Mackrell scored yet another hat-trick, with Robins scoring the fourth. Te score could have been even more impressive with Parker and Owen also coming close. What a turn-around from last week! Well done to the U13Bs for some excellent football, good spirit and impeccable temperament.
Brockham Badgers U12a   2 - 0   Southwater

Brockham Badgers U12b   0 - 8   East Grinsted United
Heron Way   0 - 6   Brockham Badgers U11a

Badgers got back to winning ways in the league with a comprehensive victory over Heron Way.

The side was able to welcome back Jonathan Walton after injury and he did well as Brockham surged forward from the start.  The first goal came from an own goal, both Mitchell Ward and Ryan Winter playing a part in the build-up.  Despite some good goalkeeping in the Heron Way goal, the Badgers were able to stretch their lead in the opening period with Winter, then Steven Kehl and Ward grabbing goals which matched the team's superiority.

Brockham's passing was paying dividends, with lad-of-the-match Aaron Clark setting up two goals and, just after half time, nearly netting what would have been a goal of the season contender: a great cross from Ward was headed just past the post by midfielder Henry Hill.

In the second half, Heron Way were able to give a good account of themselves despite the scoreline but, even so, Ryan Winter was able to claim a second and then his hat-trick to seal Brockham's deserved victory.

Brockham Badgers U10a   2 - 1   Stanley Park Dynamos
Report by Simon Winter

Brockham U10As were back to their best after last week’s defeat, applying themselves to playing some really good football and enjoying the majority of possession against Stanley Park Dynamos. They soon capitalised on their early pressure by scoring from a corner after ten minutes, with William Mahoney drilling the ball in at the far post.

Stanley Park showed why they average nearly four goals per game by forcing an equaliser four minutes later. They followed this with a spell of intense pressure on the Badgers’ goal and showed plenty of individual skill and awareness; but the half ended with Harry Morland having a fine shot well saved by the Dynamos' keeper.

After the break, Brockham slowly began to dominate their opponents. Alex Nicholson was a rock at the back and his partner Ross Bangs displayed his usual calm efficiency and positional sense. The midfield strung a succession of good moves together; Harry Morland orchestrating things and linking well with his wingers, with the result that George Coffey was buzzing around the Stanley Park box to great effect. He finally set up William Mahoney, who had a fine game and was dominant down the right wing, for his second goal. It was enough to clinch a well deserved victory, although Michael Ellis had to bring off a good save to maintain the lead in the final minutes.

Brockham Lad-of-the-Match: Bertie Edwards-Hedges - for his phenomenal end-to-end performance. Although a natural attacker, he popped up in defence throughout to make vital clearances, headed countless balls away from danger and set up many chances going forward.

Brockham Badgers U10c   2 - 4   Old Coulsdon Colts
Albury Eagles   1 - 0   Brockham Badgers U9 (White)
Report by Roger Mahony

An early start for this match with the frost still on the ground - but it was worth getting up for. In a cracking encounter, the U9 (Whites) travelled to league leaders, Albury Eagles, who have been both freescoring and mean in defence, achieving a 100% league record.

In the end, the Badgers put in their most disciplined display of the season and can be disappointed not to have earned a share of the points. The eventual difference between two fiercely competitive sides was only an unstoppable free-kick from the edge of the area, about five minutes from full time.

Brockham set out with a more defensive formation (James Rabbetts dropping into a back three with Ben Hounsfield and Thomas Charman) and, after some initial Albury pressure, began to look comfortable in defence and potent going forward.  Some neat passing between Sam Lloyd, Daniel Mahony and Cameron Boychuk began to probe at a resilient Albury defence. But the frost-hardened, undulating pitch meant the ball bobbled and bounced high, making it difficult for the forward line to bring it under control and apply the killer touch in the penalty area. Meanwhile, Albury defended in depth and broke with immense pace, but Ben, James and Tom stood firm. When the Eagles did break through for their best chance of the half, Jamie Luckins got down low to his left post to palm the shot around the corner.

The first-half was end-to-end, with exciting passing football by both sides, but a large pitch and strong defences kept attempts on target to a minimum. The half had undoubtedly been shaded by Brockham, with three excellent chances, but a goal wouldn't come.

The second-half started with Albury on top, applying near constant pressure on the Brockham goal, but the defence stood firm. Substitutes Henry Livett and Oliver Vaughan both made some timely interventions against a pacy attack; Tom Charman had possibly his best game of the season protecting Brockham's left-side and sweeping across the box to clean up behind his central and right-sided team-mates; James Rabbetts was a marauding presence in the middle and Sam Lloyd tracked back superbly to help out against the Eagles' flying left-winger. When the shots came on goal, Jamie Luckins looked unbeatable, palming one dangerous high cross to safety and pouncing bravely on every loose ball.
As the half wore on, it looked like Brockham had weathered the worst of the storm and began to mount more attacks of their own. Then, an unintentional trip on the edge of the area led to an Albury freekick which, despite good positioning by the Brockham defence, rocketed unstoppably high into the roof of the net.

So - a tight, absorbing and highly entertaining match, played in excellent spirit. It ended with a disappointing result, as the consequence of a single moment of set-piece brilliance; but the U9 (Whites) can take great pride in their team performance, knowing they won't meet a better side in the league this year.

Player-of-the-week:  Sam Lloyd - an excellent energetic performance showing great team spirit, running past defenders on the right wing, passing and crossing and tracking back to make last-ditch tackles in the box.
Brockham Badgers U9 (Red)   1 - 2   Milford Pumas Arrows

Brockham Badgers U9 (Blue)   0 - 1   Albury Griffins
Report by Jean-Paul Jhugroo

It was the U9 (Blues) last league game for 2005 and Alex Thomas' last league game in a Brockham Badgers shirt. He wore the captain's arm band.

The Badgers chose to kick off, playing downhill into a low sun on a very frosty autumn morning. From the moment the whistle blew, Albury were all over Brockham. After two minutes of constant pressure from Albury, they managed to break through and score a very easy goal.

The Griffins continued to command the game, pushing forward and creating good chances - only to be met by Lucas Fidgett. After a long period of stalemate,. Christopher Walton pushed forward to create Brockham's first attack of the game, placing a good pass to Nathan Hughes whose shot was comfortably saved.

Into the final minutes of the first half, the Badgers again formed a good attack, led by Christopher Walton and won their first corner of the game. After some frantic defending by Albury, the half time whistle was blown.

The second half kicked off with one change for the Badgers, with Jason Clarkson replacing George Fenwick. Albury started with lots of pressure, pushing the Brockham into their own half, but the Badgers eventually found their feet and won a corner. Pushing players forward, numerous shots were blocked by Albury's solid defence.

Pressing for an equaliser, Brockham were vulnerable to counter attacks and Albury broke away with three players against one. However, Thomas Hampshire stood up to the challenge and made a great clearance to allow Badgers to re-group.

Moving into the final minutes of the game, Brockham managed to make a final attack. However, the Albury defence sustained shots from Thomas, Jhugroo, Hughes and Clarkson, to clinch courtesy of the one early goal - a blow for the U9 (Blues) who drop from the top of Tadworth League 'B'.

Warming up, in every sense, on the frost-hardened pitch at Albury.

The sun came out, but the ball wouldn't go in, as Brockham had the best of the first-half chances in a tight, absorbing match.

Brockham Badgers U15   6 - 1   Hurstpierpoint United

A strong start on a crisp Saturday morning saw the U15s take control of the midfield, open the scoring after just ten minutes and add a second before half-time.

At the start In the start of the second-half, Brockham scored a third but then started to relax a little. Hurstpierpoint got a foothold in the game, pulling the scoreline back to 3-1 following a penalty, but their goal stirred Brockham back into gear. Three more goals were added to make ti a ccomfortable victory. The goals came from Sam Spall (2), Dean Knowles, Adam Davison and Joe Filgate (2), opening his account for the club.

Dorking Town U12 Girls   3 - 1   Brockham Badgers U11 Girls

Report by Gordon Walker

In their first match of the season and, for some, their first-ever competitive game, the girls put up a very good display against an older and much more experienced team.

An understandably nervous start saw Brockham 2 - 0 down after only ten minutes and 3 - 0 down at half-time. However, after the break the girls started to relax and play more to their abilities. Ella Mothee, Tilly Leney and Keaton Scanlon all came close to scoring before Rachael Woodman struck direct from a free kick, which flew into the top corner of the goal from just outside the penalty box. Brave goal keeping by Ellie Rowlands, along with some determined tackling by Hannah Burgess, Emilly Walker and Miriam Mizzi helped keep a second-half clean sheet. Meanwhile Alice Beadle, Jenny Sorous, Claire Weatherston and Kate Walker all battled in the middle, to ensure that pressure was taken off the defence and the forwards had opportunities.

The report in the Advertiser did not do Brockham Girls justice. Considering the age difference and the fact that the Badgers made numerous substitutions to accommodate all twelve girls in a seven a-side game, it was an extremely pleasing performance. Next fixture, is scheduled for Sunday 11th December against AC County, an Under 11 team from Banstead.
