Brockham Badgers U14b   2 - 3   Hurstpierpoint
Brockham Badgers U13a   5 - 1   Orpington Rovers   (Friendly)
Report by Graham Mackrell

The Badgers were made to dig deep and battle back from a half time one goal deficit before going on to record their eighth straight win with a stunning second half display.

Brockham and Orpington were both unbeaten going into this game, so something had to give and it was the Badgers caught on the back foot as Orpington took control in the centre of the park and our defence struggled to control the strong forward line. After twenty minutes, Rovers beat the offside trap and slot the ball past Hardy from close range. Crosbie was brought on to strengthen the defence and Brockham began to push forward looking for the equaliser. The first-half ended with the Badgers almost camped in the Rovers half and it seemed only a matter of time before they would score.

Straight from the start of the second-half, Brockham attacked and Holland got the equaliser with just a minute gone. It was 2-1 to Brockham when Andrews tapped home, after Mackrell chased down the keeper and laid the ball across. The Badgers were now well in control, but needed saving tackles from Van Acoleyen, Higgins and Sugden as well as some smart keeping from Hardy, to preserve their narrow lead.

A stunning run and shot across the keeper from lad-of-the-match McDonald made it 3-1 and the football was now coming straight from the training ground with some superb one-touch play and sharp skills. McDonald created a fourth goal for Mackrell to tap in from close range. Captain Harvey and Thurgood provided the strength in midfield and the second-half was complete when Crosbie scored the goal of the game with a simple drag back leading to a shot fired high into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Reigate Priory   7 - 0   Brockham Badgers U13b
Report by Chris Thomas

Plenty of fire, but no fireworks from the Brockham boys. Reigate Priory showed their intent with a good move in the first minute and continued to dominate throughout a disappointing game all round.

Some hard work and determination created some good chances for the Badgers in the second half and the keepers Robins (in the first-half) and Thomas (in the second) made some good saves.

To their credit, the boys never gave up despite this obviously not being their day. The scoreline was a bit harsh but more hard work on the training ground beckons.
Brockham Badgers U12a   3 - 3   Royal United
Brockham Badgers U11a   3 - 5   Ockley Acorns

Badgers and Ockley played out an eventful, entertaining local derby - the visitors running out narrow winners after an end-to-end second half.

It was Ockley who controlled the first half, despite good work by defenders Tim Whybrow and Dominic Nicholls, with Jack Hunt, Maxim Harper and Alex Postles also doing well - only for a good opportunistic double strike to put the visitors 2-0 up at the interval. The best Badgers chance of the half fell to William Bennett, whose shot skimmed the edge of the post after a good through ball by Dylan Peters.

The Badgers were right back in the game just after the half-time break, a great Stephen Kehl cross being tucked away by Sven Van Acoleyn to make it 2-1. But, despite good possession, Badgers could not stop Ockley adding two more goals to make it 4-1 midway through the half.

Brockham though did not give up the game. Midfielder Henry Hill drove his team forward and a penalty won and scored by Ryan Winter and a great Aran Clark strike from distance made it 3-4 with about five minutes to play.  It looked like the Badgers might go on and snatch something from the game, but Ockley made the game safe late on, with their fifth goal, to end a good contest between the two sides

Kirdford   1 - 1   Brockham Badgers U11 (White)

Both teams played well in this finely balanced match, with chances falling at each end as a result of some excellent individual skills on both sides.

Brockham kicked off the first half with confidence, having several opportunities to score before lad-of-the-match Josh Caldwell hit the ball confidently from the edge of the area into the back of the net, giving the Kirdford keeper no chance. Brockham’s defence was then solid until a goalmouth scramble saw Kirdford equalise with the last kick of the first half.

The second half was very tense, with both sides having chances to snatch victory. Brockham came close when Nathan Acheson struck the post shortly before the final whistle. Kirdford also had chances but keeper Jack Whetnall handled the ball with confidence.

Albury Griffins   1 - 0   Brockham Badgers U8 (Red)
Report by Tony Moriarty

This was one of those days when our team, despite having 75% of the possession, just couldn't convert the chances they made. Then, on a rare raid into our penalty area, Albury scraped a goal which proved enough for victory. All credit though to the Albury keeper who had an excellent game, including saving a Jack Stradling penalty and another thunderous dead-ball effort from Jack from thirty yards.

All our boys put in a great effort and are starting to play some neat, controlled football which bodes well for the remainder of the season - well done!

Star player: Andrew Kehl - good awareness and a gutsy performance. Well played!

Albury Griffins   0 - 0   Brockham Badgers U8 (Blue)
Report by Tony Moriarty

After two minutes, I had seen enough from Albury Griffins to suspect we might be in for a heavy defeat. But, as this game wore on, our boys' strong defensive qualities made the difference as they held off everything Albury could throw at them.

An unlikely Brockham victory could even have been on the cards in the closing minutes as an Albury player handled a cross in his own penalty area, only for the referee to controversially decline the appeals for a spot kick.

The U8 (Blue) captain, Alfie Edwards, is starting to put in good consistent performances and Aaran Hoad looks a very composed player. Jamie Addison's goalkeeping was outstanding.

Star player: Tom Runacres - great determination and never stopped running. Well played!

The U14Bs battled in defence and midfield - and scored a couple of goals - but couldn't rescue any points as they slipped to a narrow home defeat.

Badgers' U11 (Black) bounced back from the disappointment of losing in injury time last week with a resounding 6-1 victory over Horsham Tigers. Hat-trick hero Henry Smith bagged the goals that take his goal tally into double figures after a fine start to the season.

The first half saw Brockham have more possession. Smith opened the scoring after a good move saw Sam Norkett play the ball nicely out of defence to Alex Marshall, whose fine cross took out the Horsham defence. Smith took this time to make it 1-0 to Brockham. Further chances followed with Thomas Bletso, Marshall and Alex Ward going close, but Horsham snatched an equaliser on the stroke of half time when ever dependable defender Robbie Ventham was unlucky enough to deflect the ball past keeper George Corfield.

The Badgers started the second half well and Smith grabbed his second, then Marshall made it 3-1 within the first couple of minutes.  A fine save by the Tigers' keeper denied Ward, before Smith completed his well deserved hat-trick.  Oliver Curtis then made it 5-1 - as Badgers' midfielder Matthew Gill drove his side forward, with defenders Ventham, Atkinson, Kinsey and Morgan keeping it tight at the back.

Horsham did win a penalty, but keeper Corfield showed his great potential by pulling out a fine save - Marshall doing well to clear the rebound. A good day's work for the Badgers was rounded off when Toby Dowle netted his side's sixth goal.

A couple of chances are well-saved in the first half - but the goals started going in for U11 (Black) after half-time.

Pressure on the Old Coulsdon goal - eventually made to count as the U10As stay in the hunt in the top three of Division One.

Unbeaten in the league, but Brockham U10A were nevertheless still searching for their first home win of the season. They finally achieved it with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Old Coulsdon Colts.

The Badgers started the stronger and applied some early pressure on the Colts’ goal, with George Coffey coming close twice before setting up Bertie Edwards-Hedges. He coolly rounded the Coulsdon keeper on fourteen minutes to open the scoring.

Soon after, Angus Hodge struck a post, but adjusted his sights on nineteen minutes to fire Oli Winter’s cross low into the left hand corner for his first goal of the season - and Brockham's second of the game. At this point, the U10As seemed to have a firm grip on the match, but Coulsdon showed great determination to pull a goal back just before half time.

The second half was more even. The Badgers were the more fluent and pacy, especially Coffey who, once again, showed his ability to hold the ball up in attack; Coulsdon were stronger in the tackle, their captain trying everything to orchestrate an equaliser. Unfortunately for them, Matthew Higgins was having another of his ‘no way past’ matches, snuffing out danger whenever Colts seemed to find a way through and earning his second Lad-of-the-match award in the process. His defensive partner Alex Nicholson also put in some strong challenges and Michael Ellis was assured in goal.

Badgers almost scored a spectacular third when Harry Morland thundered a volley just wide of the post from a superb Edwards-Hedges cross, but the two goals proved enough for the win which keeps them in third place in Division 1.

Brockham Badgers U10c   7 - 0   Carshalton Saints   (5 November - Epsom and Ewell Mini-League)
Report by Duncan Hanwell

After fielding a depleted team and losing their unbeaten record in their last outing, the U10Cs were in no mood to take prisoners this week as they ran seven goals past Carshalton Saints.

Brockham took control from the start and Jamie Hanwell opened the scoring midway through the first-half, with Axel Davies adding a second before the break.

In the second-half, Brockham played some good, cohesive football and Andrew Watson marked his debut scoring from close range within a few minutes of coming onto the field. Tim Hines added a couple more goals and Axel Davies went on to complete his first hat-trick of the season, flicking in the seventh.

A good return to winning ways, which keeps the Badgers in third position in Division 5, with crunch matches coming up against the top two clubs during November.

Lad-of-the-match: Thomas Nokes - most improved performance.

Caterham Pumas   3 - 0   Brockham Badgers U10a   (6 November - Cup)
A great game but, unfortunately, no points for the U15s at Capel Youth.

With some good defending from the start, Brockham took the lead after a quarter of an hour through Nathan Owen - but we couldn't hold the lead and went into half time at 1-1. In the second half, there were three or four good Brockham chances but it took twenty minutes to grab a second goal and regain the lead. Ten minutes later, we failed to clear our lines from a Capel corner and conceded another equaliser. Then, in the dying minutes, a great strike from the edge of the box into the top corner put Capel ito the lead for the first time - and cost Brockham the match.

It was a great game, one we felt we could have won, but played in very good spirit with many of the boys on both sides knowing each other from school.

So - a disappointing result but a good team performance. Man-of-the-match went to Simon Merrikin.
One of many shots on goal - but the U15s couldn't make enough of their chances and paid the price in the dying minutes.
