Brockham Badgers U12 (Black)   4   Upper Beeding   2   (Horsham and District League)
Report by Bryan Bletso

The U12 (Blacks) took full advantage of the enforced inactivity of their rivals at the top of the division to move three points clear at the top of the table. In a good game of football, they showed determination to come from behind at half time.

After the good away win at previous league leaders Twin Oaks last week, Badgers were sluggish in the first half and it was the battling Upper Beeding side who had the better of the opening period, taking the lead midway through the half with a good run and finish.

It was a different story after the interval as Badgers immediately looked like they meant business and Beeding tired on the heavy surface.  Lad of the match, midfielder Robbie Ventham, equalised for Brockham early in the second half, his shot taking a deflection which wrong footed the keeper.  Badgers thought they had taken the lead soon after when William Bletso swept in an Ollie Curtis cross, after a good run by Curtis, but the effort was ruled offside.  However, the lead did arrive ten minutes into the half when Thomas Bletso played in William Bletso who beat his defender, drew the keeper and slotted home to make it 2-1.

It was all Brockham now and Ollie Legg capped a good second half performance by scoring the third. Another Tom Bletso through ball put leading scorer Ollie Curtis in on goal, his lobbed finish giving him his 22nd goal of the season.

Upper Beeding showed character by pulling back a late goal for 4-2, but Brockham could have scored more as Toby Dowle and George Corfield both went close in the closing stages.

All in all, a good second half display by the team making it seven wins in the last eight games.  First half keeper George Corfield and second half keeper Connor Mitchell put in another set of solid displays, while Tom Kinsey was outstanding at left back.  David Atkinson and Henry Smith turned in their usual dependable performances, George Heymann continues to progress at a rate of knots while Alex Ward did well in the second period in an unaccustomed right back position.

Squad: Connor Mitchell, George Corfield, Tom Kinsey, Alex Ward, George Corfield, Thomas Bletso (c), Robbie Ventham, Ollie Legg, Toby Dowle, Ollie Curtis, Henry Smith, William Bletso.
Brockham Badgers U10 Assassins   5   Roundshaw Colts A   0   (Epsom and Ewell Mini League)
Report and Pictures by Paul Walton

The U10 Assassins bounced back to form and dominated their match against Roundshaw Colts, recording a 5-0 win in the Epsom and Ewell league.

The pattern of the game was set in the first minute when Player of the Week William Pereira put a shot just wide from a corner.  Thereafter Roundshaw managed only sporadic opportunities as Brockham mounted almost continuous attacks, hitting the woodwork four times amongst numerous chances.

The scoring started after seven minutes when Pereira controlled the ball well on half way, ran twenty yards and struck a shot cleanly past the keeper.  Good combinations between Felix Saro-Wiwa and Pereira created sustained pressure on the Roundshaw goal culminating in Pereira touching the ball over the line for his second.

Throughout the first half, Brockham were superior in all departments.  Down the left, Chris Walton made incisive runs from defence linking effectively with Pereira and Saro-Wiwa.  On the right, Luke Brightman probed the defence intelligently culminating in the third goal as his hard shot from an acute angle deceived the keeper.  Just before half time, more Brockham pressure resulted in a goalmouth melee in which Saro-Wiwa was first to a loose ball, forcing it over the line.

The switch of ends made no difference.  James Rabbetts took advantage of confusion in the Roundshaw defence with a firm shot from close range into the top of the net.

With the game won, the intensity of the Brockham play diminished.  Towards the end of the game Roundshaw managed to hit the post and force a good save from Jamie Luckins, but that was the last significant action of the game.

Brockham deserved to win comfortably, and manager Jason Rabbetts was especially pleased that the team recorded a clean sheet.

Squad: Jamie Luckins, Tom Hampshire, Chris Walton, Tom Charman, Sam Lloyd (c), James Rabbetts, Luke Brightman, Felix Saro-Wiwa, William Pereira.

Hitting top form in front of goal...but the clean sheet was just as pleasing for the U10 Assassins' manager.

Brockham Badgers U10 Barbarians   2   Stoneleigh Athletic B   0   (Epsom and Ewell Mini League)
Report by Jean Paul Jhugroo

The U10 Barbarians were looking to continue their good run in the league, but the start of the game was very tense; Badgers could not get into their stride and gave Stoneleigh too much of the ball. But after some early and close attempts from Stoneleigh, Brockham started to gain possession and good play from Luc Jhugroo, who was captain for the day, led to Nathan Hughes scoring his seventh goal of the season.

Although down, Stoneleigh stepped up a gear which lead to some stern defending from Ali Masson and Archie Knight. Badgers appeared to be pinned back into their half of the pitch, but some quick footwork from Lewis Wood and Ashley Marshall took some of the pressure of and won a corner. From the corner, Luc Jhugroo crossed a low ball into the front post, which was deflected into the path of Ali Masson. He hit a low shot into the back of the net.

At 2-0 up it was Brockham on the front foot, creating numerous chances. One of the best was an Ashley Marshall shot from the half way line - but the Stoneleigh's keeper was alert to it. Moments from the half time whistle, Cameron Wallis was tested with a long high shot from Stoneleigh and, even though the sun was clearly hindering his view, he pulled off a great save.

Into the second half and Badgers continued to dominate with more long shots from Ashley Marshall and Luc Jhugroo forming a great attacking partnership with Ali Masson - but a third goal proved elusive. For their part, Stoneleigh were trying to get back into the game, but couldn't find a way past Cameron Wallis. Another attack started by George Gomes allowed Luc Jhugroo to run at Stoneleigh's defence, his shot hit the post and George Fenwick got to the rebound but again Stoneleigh's keeper pulled off a great diving save.

Into the last minute of the game and shots rained in from Nathan Hughes, Lewis Wood, Ashley Marshall and George Fenwick, but Stoneleigh's keeper continued to frustrate them. So, no further goals, but three valuable points and a third straight win, which sets the U10 Barbarians up nicely for next week's match against the unbeaten AFC Epsom.

Squad: Cameron Wallis, Nathan Hughes, Archie Knight, Luc Jhugroo (c), Lewis Wood, Ashley Marshall, Alistair Masson, George Fenwick.
