Report by Bryan Bletso
In blustery
driving rain, on a quagmire of a pitch, the U10 Assassins' recent
good form deserted them as they were beaten 6-3 by a clinical
Old Coulsdon Colts U10B side.
In the first half Brockham
created twice as many chances as Coulsdon, but some familiar frailties
returned as simple and effective passes were missed, most of the chances
were squandered and too often Coulsdon players were unmarked. Going
in at half-time 2-3 down, Brockham pushed forward in the second half,
but Coulsdon coolly took advantage of the space created in the midfield
and defence with precise finishing.
From the start early chances
fell to Coulsdon, but Badgers' attacking runs generated chances for
Felix Saro-Wiwa, William Pereira and James Rabbetts. Agonisingly,
the shots went just wide. As Brockham players drifted out of
position, two sharp Coulsdon attacks found players unmarked, in midfield
and then in front of goal, to score. In reply, Brockham’s attacking
style was increasingly limited to solo runs up field until a free
kick from Saro-Wiwa squeezed through a crowded area. Shortly
afterwards, a good goal kick from Chris Walton found Saro-Wiwa unmarked
on the half-way line. He turned and ran through the defence
to level the scores.
The next goal had the potential to change
the momentum of the game - and it came from a speculative long-range
shot from Coulsdon which found the top of the net. From this point
on, better Coulsdon discipline and composure won the day.
The
deteriorating conditions dominated the first part of the second half
with only rare moments of skill. In one of these, Luke Brightman
produced a penetrating cross from the right through to James Rabbetts
at the far post who levelled the score. But that was the end
of the Brockham threat. Coulsdon scored from a free kick and
also when a cross from the right was touched in by an unmarked forward
at the far post. Finally a speculative long ball wasn’t cleared
by the Brockham defence allowing a Coulsdon forward clear on goal
to finish the scoring.
Squad: Jamie Luckins, Tom Hampshire, Chris

Badgers continued to play some good football and looked in control. However, Dynamo managed to catch them on the break - but Cameron Wallis safe hands ensure that any threat was curtailed. A good goal kick from Cameron Wallis led to George Fenwick playing a perfectly weighted pass to Ashley Marshall on the edge of the goal area. Ashley's shot was low and fast - straight into the back of the net.
Into the second half and there were early chances for Lewis Wood and Luc Jhugroo. A move started by Luc Jhugroo on left wing with a cheeky back heeled pass to Ashley Marshall ended with Nathan Hughes hitting the side netting. Although Badgers were starting tire, they showed great character and dug deep. Some smart defending by Ali Masson was converted into attack when he played a long ball up the wing to George Fenwick. George hit a shot which the Dynamo keeper managed to stop - but the ball was spinning on the line. Nathan Hughes was first to react and he tapped the ball into the net for Brockham's third.
In the final five minutes, Dynamo stepped up a gear and really pushed Badgers back into their half. Only the defensive partnership of Ali Masson and Archie Knight kept them at bay. However, when Brockham faisled to clear a corner, Dynamo grabbed a goal. But it proved to be simply a consolation as Brockham stood firm to take all three points.
