Brockham Badgers U17   2   Dorking Colts   4  (Epsom and Ewell Youth League)
Report by Roger Bayliss

In what was to be a match charged with local interest, the game started off at a challenging pace. For the first ten minutes honours were even as both teams attempted to gain the advantage. Shortly after, Dorking went 1-0 up after a slip up in the Brockham defence. The visitors continued to push forward and were rewarded with another gifted goal after 28 minutes, adding a third on 43 minutes after a poor clearance.

With a half-time team talk re-focussing efforts on local pride, Brockham set out for the second half and had the upper hand.  Shortly after they were rewarded by the hard working Bryer, who muscled through the defence and past the oncoming keeper. From more pressure Brockham were denied what could have been a vital second. Cackett broke the defensive deadlock and Bryer again hit the target, only for his effort to be ruled out by a tight offide decision.

Brockham reformed to a 4-4-2 and started to trouble the vsitors with more frequent attacks. They eventually broke through with a superb goal from Cakett on 65 mins. This gave hope but, on 73 mins, Dorking again scored from a corner. Despite this, Brockham battled to the end but were unable to gain any further advantage.

A challenging and hard fought game, Brockham U17s played a spirited, commendable and controlled match. Whilst the game was not won, the squad should take heart and great pride from a competing with a good Dorking side who expected far more from the game.

Squad: Parker, Collins, Evans, Clarke, Bayliss (c), Hinchliffe (Yeates), Nazer, Robinson (Kelly), Bryer, Cackett, Mothee (sub not used), Rowe (sub not used).

Man of the Match: Jonny Clarke - who was steady and focussed throughout with tough challenging and good distribution. Special mention for Chris Nazer making his Brockham debut.
Storrington Vipers   0   Brockham Badgers U12A   9  (Frank Geiss Memorial Cup R1)

The U12As achieved a good away win at lower league Storrington to progress to the last 16 of the Horsham League Cup.  Led by lad of the match Alex Postles, Badgers were held at bay by the determined home side for around twenty minutes, but a goal from striker Ben Stokoe ten minutes from half time opened the floodgates, The scoreline was quickly added to by a second for Stokoe before further goals from Stephen Kehl and Ryan Winter made it 4-0 at half time.

Stokoe got his hattrick soon after the break, with Kehl also notching his second and third goals to make it 7-0. Manager Ian Kehl then switched formation with Kehl and Stokoe playing in defence and defenders Jack Hunt and Matthew Gill pushed up into attack; first half keeper Henry Warne switched to midfield with Henry Hill going in goal. Warne scored his first goal for Badgers late in the game when he converted a penalty after being brought down in the area.  Midfielder Arun Clark rounded off the scoring to end a good day's work for the team.
Brockham Badgers U12 (Black)   9   Southwater (Black)   4   (Frank Geiss Memorial Cup R1)

Report by Bryan Bletso

The U12 (Blacks) continued their promising start to the season with a commanding and exciting performance over a Southwater side that battled until the final whistle.  A hatrick inside eight minutes from in-form striker Oliver Curtis set Badgers on their way, with midfielder Henry Smith not to be out done and also scoring a hatrick and other goals coming from Oli Legg, William Bletso and an unfortunate own goal.

Badgers were 2-0 up inside the opening five minutes, as Oli Curtis notched a quick brace, the second a determined run from inside his area.  Southwater though were proving a handful for the Badgers defence, superbly marshalled once again by David Atkinson, and a well taken goal made it 2-1 in only the seventh minute.  Brockham responded immediately, a skilfull run by Alex Marshall seeing his cross side footed home by Curtis for an eight-minute hatrick!

It was soon 4-1 as Smith scored the first of his goals, with Southwater quickly hitting back to make it 4-2. But William Bletso headed home to make it 5-2 on 22 minutes before Smith scored again (6-2), as Badgers attacked with impressive purpose to put the game beyond doubt before half time.  To give Southwater their due, they put Badgers under concerted pressure for the final few minutes of the half and only determined defending from Max Ruff, Connor Mitchell and Tom Kinsey, in front of the commanding first half keeper George Corfield, kept the visitors at bay.

Driven on by the impressive central midfield partnership of Thomas Bletso and Alex Marshall, Badgers continued where they had left off in the second half, creating a lot of chances. Oli Legg scored the goal of the game to make it 7-2  with a great run and finish down the Brockham right.  Poor concentration let Southwater score from the kick off, as the visitors refused to lie down, but an own goal added Brockham's eighth; the ninth followed when a good through ball by William Bletso put Smith in for his hatrick.  In the last move of the game, Southwater scored from a penalty, despite the valiant attempts from second half keeper Mitchell to keep the ball out.
Brockham Badgers U11B   2   Molesey Juniors   3   (Epsom and Ewell Youth League)
Report and pictures by Trevor Reaveley

There were some confused faces from latecomers when they reached the Big Field and didn't recognise anyone in black and white stripes. For the first time this season, the U11s wore their second strip of yellow, playing against Molesey Juniors who sported our normal attire.

Molesey arrived on the back of four successive wins that had seen them take top place in the league, but
Brockham started with a very positive attitude and were on the offensive from the whistle. Very good attempts from Tim Hines and then Daniel Crook flew past the post to give Molesey a scare and some impressive link-up play between Luca and DJ Hall on the left, caused the visitors a few problems.

This partnership led to the first goal of the day as the two exchanged passes and a cross into the box found Hines in the right spot to score with a well executed lob. The Molesey reply came within minutes as every Brockham player retreated from a free kick and left the visitors to score.

Just before the break we took the lead again as Luca got his foot on the end of a cross and it looped over the keeper.

With the second half barely underway it was level again, following fast flowing Molesey move through the centre of the field which caught the defence unawares. A third goal came for the visitors minutes later after a goalmouth scramble. No one took charge of a looping cross and it left a Molesey striker to fire past a helpless Michael Ells in the Brockham goal. This effectively finished the game as we lost our shape, with defenders going forward and leaving gaps at the back. More than once we were lucky not to concede but, having said that, we also had our chances and were unlucky not to score on four or five occasions.

The first equaliser from the visitors was particularly disappointing. A lapse in concentration by virtually all of the Brockham outfield players, who were running into their positions with their backs to the ball while the free kick was being taken, saw the Molesey team left virtually unmarked. Had we made it to half-time with a two goal lead, we probably could have taken the game.

Nevertheless, it was a very good performance by the U11Bs and we definitely had the best of the first half by a long way. As the Molesey manager said at the end of the match: "Thanks for the entertainment lads, it should have been a draw"!

Player Of The Day: Luca - good play down the left.
Who are ya?

Brockham Badgers U10 Assassins   4   AFC Epsom B   0   (George Szekely Cup R2)
Report by Paul Walton

In their first cup game of the year, the U10 Assassins, without hitting top form, scored four goals (for the third week in a row) and proved too strong all round for Epsom B.

After early pressure from Epsom, Brockham settled.  James Rabbetts proved a commanding substitute goalkeeper; the defensive unit of Tom Hampshire and Chris Walton was secure and effectively converted defence into attack.  The midfield was industrious and penetrating with Luke Brightman providing many outstanding crosses from the right - Sam Lloyd was the main beneficiary, scoring all four goals.

The first Brightman/Lloyd combination delivered the first goal after eight minutes as Lloyd touched the ball in at the far post. Shots from Cameron Boychuk and Felix Saro-Wiwa led to a period of sustained pressure, allowing Lloyd to poach the second goal.

The deficit spurred Epsom into action.  Until the end of the first half there were goalmouth incidents at both ends and only committed defence by both teams prevented further additions to the scoreline.

The pattern continued into the second half.  Early Badgers corners were matched by Epsom attacks.  But, once again, Sam Lloyd broke the deadlock.  Picking up the ball on the left, he beat one defender and then the goalkeeper with a strong shot at the near post.

As Brockham relaxed, Epsom had their strongest period of the game. Often outnumbering the defence, they were only kept out by decisive tackles from Tom Hampshire, good positioning and interceptions from Chris Walton and agile saves from James Rabbetts.

In the last ten minutes, we finally saw the football that the U10 Assassins are capable of.  Several flowing passing moves, often initiated by William Pereira, generated good chances including a first time volley from Sam Lloyd that hit the post.  However, Lloyd was not to be denied and two minutes later he lashed the ball into the bottom left hand corner from twelve yards.

Brockham’s U10 manager Jason Rabbetts summed up the game: “The boys put into practice all the ideas we developed in training.  I’m especially pleased that we kept a clean sheet for the first time this season”.

Squad: James Rabbetts (c), Tom Hampshire, Chris Walton, Tom Charman, Luke Brightman, Sam Lloyd, Cameron Boychuck, Felix Saro-Wiwa, William Pereira

Player of the week: Luke Brightman
Albury Eagles   1   Brockham Badgers U9 (Red)   3  (Tadworth League)
Report by Tony Moriarty

Having played Albury at home in a friendly four weeks ago and gained a comfortable victory, I expected that things should go our way again today. What I didn't expect was a Jack Stradling goal within the first ten seconds, which must be the quickest we've ever scored. Albury kicked off, but indecision between two of their midfielders gave Jack the opportunity to steal the ball. He then dribbled around two defenders and coolly slotted home past their keeper - dream start!

Our usually rock solid defence was breached five minutes later but, after that, it was all Brockham. Tom Killner crashed a twenty yarder onto the post to see it bounce in off the Albury keeper and an Andy Kehl opportune strike shortly after the break wrapped things up for us.

Jake Graham and Michael Tsimekis grew in confidence as the game wore on and made things fairly comfortable for our goalkeeper Andrew Kensett, who got down bravely to deny Albury their only chance of the second half.

Harry Morris played intelligently throughout and Adam Moriarty at last showed some glimpses of his ability to track back and win the ball, as well as provide an option on the left.

So two games into the season, the U9 (Reds) have six points and are top of the Tadworth First Division with a plus ten goal difference. An excellent start - well done.

Star Player: Andy Kehl - played a terrific game in midfield for us today, solid in defence and always a threat on the break. Andy ran end-to-end for the entire game and put in an inspiring perfromance. Well played!

Brockham Badgers U9 (White)   1    Walton Wasps   5    (Tadworth League)

Report by Simon Haines

Well Garth, it was a game of two halves!  In fact lets think about it as two matches – we lost the first 5–0 and won the second 1–0.

First half, the U9 (Whites) were completely outplayed and some good attacking play and finishing from Walton gave them the upper hand at half time.  A second half re-shuffle for Brockham moved Ed Hetzel into defence and Ed, along with central defender Laurence Dean, played magnificently, restricting Walton to just one shot on goal, which was well saved by keeper Bailey Moore.  The boys worked very hard and got their reward mid way through the second half with a well-taken goal from Euan Ratcliffe.

At times, the Badgers played some good football and become a better team every week.

Star Players:  Two this week....  Lawrence Dean - again, an excellent defensive performance through the entire match.... in partnership with Ed Hetzel, who reads the game very well - a formidable foundation for our second half resurgence.

The U10 Assassins score four - to kill off a spirited Cup challenge from Epsom B.
