Congratulations
to the Blues for holding their heads up high and battling to the very
end against their friends the Reds... and congratulations to the Reds,
not for the margin of victory, but the way they showed great maturity
in not overdoing the celebrations an eight goal margin would
normally bring. A derby is never an ideal way to kick-off the
season, but the Blues will learn greatly from this experience
and I have no doubt will bounce back in their next fixture in
two weeks time.
U9 (Blue) Star Player: Louis Clark. Louis really
impressed me today with his determination and battling performance.
Well done!
U9 (Red) Star Player: Toby Hunt. When Jack
Stradling scores four goals in one match and still doesn't get the
Star Player award, then you'll realise that today's choice, Toby
Hunt, must have played out of his skin. Toby is forming a terrific
defensive unit with Jake Graham - two games, two clean sheets. In
this match, Toby not only demonstrated a brilliant awareness of the
game, but played with authority and intelligence to such
an extent that the usually potent Blues front line didn't get
a look in. Well done.

Report by Simon Haines
This was the first fixture for
the newly formed U9 Whites (our C team). The first half, as
might have been expected with a new team (and a new Manager), was
a little disorganized with only some superb defensive work by Lawrence
Dean keeping the score at 0-0.
The second half was an entirely
different story with the team beginning to find their feet and chances
being created at both ends. Mickleham scored first which only
inspired Brockham to press harder. A penalty awarded to Brockham
looked as though it would get the score back level, but Tom Runacres’
well struck spot kick produced an excellent save from the Mickleham
keeper. The scores were eventually levelled five minutes later
by Tom Runacres, with a close range shot.
A pass from Charlie
Haines to Euan Ratcliffe gave Brockham the opportunity for a late
winner, but the shot went just wide of the Mickleham goal. So,
1-1 was the final score and a fair result.
Star player: Without doubt this goes to Lawrence Dean. Nothing gets past
this boy. An excellent defensive performance through the entire
match, but kept us in the game in the first half. An excellent
start for the U9 (White) team.
