The Badgers were founded in 1979 with just twenty boys from the village. Today, the club has around 350 boys and girls aged from 6 to 18 regularly playing and training – and, in the past couple of seasons, an annual Brockham tournament has been established, inviting clubs from throughout the South East. This year’s event attracted 160 teams and was popularly acclaimed by visiting clubs as one of the most successful and best organised tournaments they had ever attended.
Now Brockham Badgers is at a turning point. The club’s continued popularity has stretched coaching, equipment and especially pitch availability to the limit. The Club has an ambitious five-year plan in place to develop resources for the benefit of the local area and aims to use the award of the FA Charter Standard to fundraise and move forward.
Chairman Grant Ashley says, “The popularity of Brockham Badgers stems from our community approach. We want to do our best, but we’re not elitist. Our ethos is to welcome boys and girls of all standards, encourage them to enjoy playing football right through into adult life and to fulfil their personal potential – no matter what level that is.
“The FA Charter Standard recognises that our organisation now reaches the best standards and gives us a platform to continue to develop.”
