GIANTS WON'T BE KILLED
28 September 2009

The first cup weekend of the season pitted several Badgers teams against higher league opposition - but, despite spirited performances, there was no giant killing in the Horsham & District League Cup.

B-League U15As took the lead against East Grinstead Town - but suffered heartbreak in the final minutes as their A-League opponents came from behind to snatch the win.

Chasing a win - but 21 attempts on goal couldn't seal the points for the U13As

In the U11 competition, there was a local derby as our A and B sides were drawn against each other. The game went with form as the A team went into the second round.

In the leagues, there were wins for U18 Athletic, the U15 Girls, U14A and U14B.

BOUNCEBACKABILITY
21 September 2009

'Bouncebackability' might have been coined by Iain Dowie for the (slightly) more illustrious team up the road at Selhurst Park - but it could equally be applied to Brockham's U18 Athletic.

The team found themselves on the wrong end of a 19-1 scoreline in their first game last week. But it was a different story this weekend - as they recovered with a 1-0 away win at Kew

The U14Bs carried last season's promotion-winning form into their first game.

Park Rangers in the Surrey Youth League.

Elsewhere, after winning promotion last season, the U14Bs also showed character in their first game in the Epsom & Ewell First Division. A last minute equaliser earned a point at NPL Youth - a team two divisions above the Badgers last year.

Congratulations too, to the U11Bs. After two 4-0 defeats, it was third time lucky as they scored their first goals and earned their first points in a convincing 5-0 win over Billingshurst.

IT'S A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT
14 September 2009

And just as well too! Badgers teams found themselves struggling for early season form on the first full weekend of league action.

On the plus side, our new U18 Athletic team - in their opening Surrey Youth League match - scored their first goal of the season. However, in the same game, they also conceded their first 19 goals! But, with only eight players availble to take to the pitch against Kingstonian Youth, they know there'll be better things to come.

Elsewhere, there were some brave performances - but precious few points. Only the U15 Girls, the U15As, U14As and U11As registered a win.

Don't forget you can keep up-to-date with all the results from Badgers' matches, in all age groups, throughout the season here on the club website. Results, reports and photos are usually published every Monday evening.

LUKE REMEMBERED AT SEASON OPENER

The curtain was raised on the new season as Brockham Badgers U16 took on their counterparts from Ockley Acorns under the floodlights at Dorking FC's Meadowbank Stadium.

It was the second annual Luke Holland Memorial Trophy match and, fittingly, was a competitive, spirited and sporting occasion. The game, between Luke's two clubs, was refereed by Neil Holland with his familiar, calm and fair authority. Brockham raced into a 3-0 lead within half an hour, but then found themselves pegged back by a determined Ockley side. At the end of the night, the trophy was shared as the match ended in a 3-3 draw for the second year running.

The evening raised money for Surrey Air Ambulance, with Neil and Sally Holland announcing that the fundraising they've been leading has now topped a staggering £50,000.

Elsewhere, Brockham's Horsham and District teams kicked off their league programmes - with mixed results. Next weekend, the action gets underway for the Surrey Youth League, Surrey Womens and Girls and the Epsom and Ewell League.
