HELICOPTER HEROES:
RUNNING FOR LUKE AND NEIL
25 February 2008

Plans have been announced for a major Brockham Badgers fundraising effort. It will mark the work of the rescue crews involved in the accident in which Luke Holland lost his life and his Dad, Neil, was criticially injured.

The events of last month shocked us all and a lot of thought has been going into ways in which we can try to create something positive out of this tragic situation.

The Surrey Air Ambulance

A number of people will be attempting to raise money for the Air Ambulance Services which, without doubt, saved Neil’s life. These amazing services receive no official funding whatsoever and rely totally on donations. Neil and Sally Holland are really happy for money to be raised for both the Surrey and London Air Ambulance Services - and so a team of volunteers will be raising sponsorship by taking part in the British 10K London Run in July.

The target is to raise £10,000. Brockham Badgers Chairman, Grant Ashley, is one of the team, who have been dubbed Neil's Runners. He says, "Brockham Badgers is a wonderful club and we have shown how we can pull together and achieve great things. It would be brilliant if we could somehow achieve this sponsorship target together. I am really hoping that every family will make a donation towards this cause."

If you would like to sponsor Neil's Runners, two special "Just Giving" websites have been set up. These sites mean that donations will receive gift aid - so every £10 donated means the Air Ambulance Service will receive £12.80. Click here for the Surrey Air Ambulance donation site - and here for the London service site.

Also if any of the boys or girls in Brockham Badgers have ideas for setting up other fund raising events, then all the money can go into the same pot. You can email us to let us know what you would like to do and we can publicise the different events here on the Badgers website.

Brockham Badgers FC and Neil's Runners thank you for your support.

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR DEVELOPMENT
24 February 2008

With just five of our teams in competitive action, many of our players took advantage of the break in the league programme to take part in Half Term Coaching.

UEFA B-qualified coach Nick Torpey ran a four day course with two days at the Big Field and two at Westcott, the home of Holmbury Wolves.

The course was attended by players from the Badgers, the Wolves and Chipstead F.C.

The boys and girls, aged 7 – 13, developed their skills in a variety of drills and small sided games. On Wednesday, goalkeepers got the chance to develop their ball handling skills and shot stopping with a specialist keeping coach.

Nick says: "The atmosphere was fantastic and some of the older players were happy to help the younger ones improve, whilst improving their own performance. A big thanks for the clubs and parents for supporting the course and the players for creating such a great environment to learn and develop."

Meanwhile, there were league games this weekend for the U18s, U15s, U12s and U10s. Click here to see all this week's results and reports.

FRESH CHICKS
24 February 2008

Two U16 Badgers made their debuts for Dorking FC's U18s this week in the Midweek Floodlit League.

Striker Mike Shaw and midfielder Andy Miller joined the Chicks in the 1-1 draw with Horley Town at Dorking's Meadowbank stadium.

It's the latest development in the affiliation between Brockham Badgers and Dorking FC - offering a range of options for our boys as they look to continue their involvement in sport beyond their youth football days. Next season, it's hoped that a few of the current Badgers U16 squad into Dorking's Under 18s.

SEVEN UP
17 February 2008

With half-term, there was a reduced league programme this week. And the U11As (pictured right) took full advantage as their rivals rested...scoring seven goals and moving up to third place in the Epsom and Ewell Premier Division.

Elsewhere, there may have been a shortage of games, but there was no shortage of goals. The U18s ran in ten against Dynamo Molesey Reserves, and the U12As kept the pressure on the Surrey Youth League leaders with a 6-2 home win against Epsom and Ewell Colts.

The U10Cs might still be searching for their first league win but, facing Twickenham Tigers who beat them 18-0 last time, they can take pride in the fact they restricted them to just five goals this time out. U10 player Joshua Hamilton writes: "They scored one goal and then scored four more because we were out of breath." Many a Premeirship Manager could learn from such an honest appraisal! Read Joshua's full report here.

And there was a winning coaching debut for mum Tricia Kehl. She stepped into the managerial role for the first time as 'holiday cover' and led the U10As to a 4-2 victory over Merstham - with her son Andy netting all four goals.

UNDER 10C's MAKE THEIR POINT!
12 February 2008

They may not be our most successful - but they are undoubtedly the most spirited team in Brockham Badgers. And, after 17 months of football, the U10C's have picked up their first league point in two seasons!

It happened on Saturday morning on the Big Field, as the boys fought out a goalless draw with Hook Youth. It's a tribute to the manager Simon Haines and the sportsmanship of the boys that they have continued to play and enjoy

their football for so long whilst waiting to get some points on the board. Brockham Badgers is proud of you. Let's hope this is the first point of many in the coming seasons! You can read defender Jonathan Taylor's report here.

Meanwhile, with two games to go, the U8 Blacks still top the Tadworth League table after a 6-2 home win over Albury Eagles. You can see the pictures here. There were also good wins for both U15 sides, the U14As, U12As, U9 Blues and U9 Reds.

BADGERS' YOUNG COACHES WIN COMMUNITY AWARD
3 February 2008

The U18s Badgers who stepped in this season to keep our U10s running have been recognised with a Mole Valley Community Award.

After the departure of last year's team manager in the summer, the U10s faced an uncertain future. But Lewis Evans, Tom Ashley and Greg

Lewis Evans and Tom Ashley

Cackett - three of our U18s squad - volunteered to help out and have been taking their FA coaching badges and training the boys.

Their coaching is a hit with the U10 players - and with their parents, who nominated them for the award for their coaching skills and the way they have pulled the squad together after a difficult few weeks last year. At an awards evening at Dorking Halls, Lewis, Tom and Greg were up against five other worthy nominees - but came away with the Spirit of Achievement Award.

Receiving the award, Tom Ashley dedicated it to Luke Holland, who he described as both a great player and an inspiration to those who had known him.

Congratulations go not just to Lewis, Tom and Greg - but also to Simon Haines, who has taken over the overall running of the U10s this year, and turned it into one of our most popular age groups.

To find out how the U10s fared on the pitch this week, read a match report by player Will Hearn here.
