BROCKHAM 09: THE CHAIRMAN LOOKS FORWARD
6 June 2009

With a week to go to Brockham 09, our major fundraising event of the year with 192 teams taking part, Brockham Badgers' Chairman, Grant Ashley has been looking forward to our fourth annual tournament and talking about how important it is for the future development of the club.

Another year has flown by and the team at Brockham Badgers FC are ready to launch another spectacular tournament; our fourth one on the bounce.  This is special year for our club. It was formed in 1979 and therefore we're celebrating our 30th anniversary. So we hope to provide a memorable experience for all those attending Brockham 09 - both from the Badgers and the visiting teams.

This fantastic tournament was the brainchild of Jason Rabbetts and has been totally supported by the Management Committee for several reasons:

1. It’s an event that raises funds for our club.

2. It’s a tournament that must be considered one of the best in the South of England.

3. It’s an annual event that says so much about this wonderful “village football club” and is a real show piece for Brockham Badgers.

4. It’s an event that our teams can compete in and be proud of.

Each year the tournament team go to extraordinary lengths to ensure that we run a safe, fun and competitive tournament.  Our other key objective is fund raising for Brockham Badgers FC - both the day-to-day running expenses (such as our fees to Dorking Rugby Club and Mole Valley District Council for the many pitches we need) and longer-term projects.

Since 2006 we have had many projects on the go which require funding and I am sure you may just wonder what we do with the money we raise?

A great deal of it is kept in reserve in order to ensure the long term security and financial stability of our Club and with a keen eye on our long term objectives:

A long term home with more pitches and training facilities for our teams

This is an ongoing project for which we will need substantial funding both for the research and ultimately the capital expenditure.

The provision of top class training for all age groups

We have recently agreed a three year contract with Nick Torpey our UEFA Qualified coach to provide an extensive training programme for our Managers which will deliver high standards of training and a consistency across all the age groups.

We recently trialled and have just agreed a goalkeeper training programme for eleven a side teams which will be led by a highly experienced Fulham FC Academy goalkeeping coach.

Inclusive not exclusive football

We strongly believe that the football we provide is not just about team sport but also an opportunity for youngsters to flourish and develop.  We have therefore tried to keep the costs at Brockham Badgers highly competitive in order to give as many children as possible the chance to enjoy what we provide at our club.

Whether you are helping, competing or a spectator at the Big Field Brockham on 13th & 14th June I hope you enjoy your Brockham Badgers experience.

Best wishes

Grant Ashley
Chairman, Brockham Badgers FC
