CUP A LOAD OF THIS!
28 September 2008 |
The season's first weekend of Cup action saw all the traditional excitement - with thumping victories, brave defeats and the odd spot of giantkilling.
In their first-every match in the Surrey Youth League Cup, the U12As saw off Barnes Eagles Colts with a 7-0 away win. Whilst the U11As also had a good away win - overcoming higher league opposition in the Horsham and District League Cup. |

Meanwhile, our mini-soccer (7-a-side) teams kicked off their league campaigns in the Tadworth League - with mixed fortunes.

A PROMISING START
21 September 2008 |
The first competitive mini-soccer action this season has seen Brockham Badgers U9A win the Holmbury & Westcott Wolves Tournament at the Duke of Kent School.
Three straight wins delivered victory and created confidence ahead of next weekend's kick-off in the Tadworth League for the U9s, along with the U8s and U10s. |

Elsewhere, there were some home truths (and quite a few away ones too) for Brockham teams, many of them having stepped up a level this season. Although there was plenty to applaud from all eleven sides in league action, only the U16Bs, U15As and U12Bs picked up points.
However, the home draw for the U15As marked their first league points after winning promotion back to the Horsham and District A Division. We look forward to seeing them kick on from here!

SETTING THE PACE
14 September 2008 |
It may not count for much yet, but we can enjoy the moment anyway....as no fewer than four Brockham Badgers teams sit proudly on top of their league tables at this early stage of the season.
Top scorers are the U11 Comets, with a goal difference of 22 after just two games! You can read their ever-so-slightly surreal match report by man-of-the-match Alfie Edwards and his Dad, Graham, by clicking here. |

A winning start for the U12As

The U16Bs, U14As and U12Bs are also early-season leaders.
Several Badgers teams have made a major step up in standard this year. Most notably the U13As, now playing in the Surrey Youth League Premier Elite - the highest level any of our teams have competed at for many years. They were handed a tough opening day fixture, away at Sutton United, but were undaunted - coming away as 4-2 winners. A fantastic start!
The U12As have also entered the Surrey Youth League (Premier North) for the first time, and they notched up a 2-0 win at home to Hampton Manor for their opening game.

THE MARATHON STARTS HERE...
7 September 2008 |
As the Horsham and District League kicked off the new season, the old adage that 'it's a marathon not a sprint' will have provided a note of caution for some of our teams....and comfort for others.
Seven Badgers sides were in competitive action, with some big scorelines and very mixed outcomes - but plenty of positives to build on win or lose.
All the results are here. |

Pre-season action
at the Big Field
|
Amazingly, some of our games on the very first day of the season had to be postponed due to waterlogged pitches - in case you were any doubt about what a miserable summer it's been!
For all our squads competing in the Surrey Youth League and the Epsom & Ewell League, the competitive games won't start until next weekend - but the Big Field has seen plenty of training and pre-season friendlies. You can see a selection of pictures from the recent matches and coaching here.

LUKE HOLLAND MEMORIAL TROPHY
2 September 2008 |
Fittingly, the Badgers' first competitive game of the new season will be the inaugural Luke Holland Memorial match.
The game will be played between the U16s of Brockham Badgers and Ockley Acorns, the two clubs Luke played for, in celebration and comemoration of his life. |
|
The match will be hosted at Dorking FC's Meadowbank Stadium, this Sunday 7th September, kicking off under the floodlights at 7pm. Luke's Dad, Neil Holland, will be refereeing the game assisted by two official linesmen, with the winning team being awarded the Luke Holland Memorial Trophy, which they will hold for the coming season. From next year, the game will become an annual event, contested between the U15 sides of Brockham and Ockley.
Both clubs are hoping for as many families from all age groups to attend as possible. It should be an enjoyable match, the bar will be open and refreshments on sale. Neil and Sally Holland are still raising money for the Air Ambulance service and the fabulous work they do. Thanks to the wholehearted support of the community and many friends and well wishers, the have raised so far more than £20,000 - and the total is still rising.
With that in mind, there will be buckets at the entrance to the match on Sunday and we would like to ask all adults to contribute just £1 as they enter. Any one under 18 will not be asked for a donation.
Please show your support for the cause and this new club event by coming along and encouraging friends to join you. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
