YOU CAN'T WIN 'EM ALL...
23 September 2007 |
...although after eighteen months without a home league defeat, you could be forgiven for feeling a little invincible.
However, after that tremendous unbeaten run stretching back a year-and-a-half, the U13 Blacks finally tasted defeat on the Big Field. They didn't give up their record tamely, showing tremedous character to fight back from conceding two early goals and take a 3-2 lead - before eventually succumbing 4-3 to Billingshurst. |
|
You fon't necessarily expect to win when facing a County Cup tie against a team who were playing four divsions higher last season. That was the task for the U11As in only their second competitive 11-a-side match....see how they got on here.
There were plenty of goasl about this weekend - and some of them going out way! The U16Bs won 11-0 at Cranleigh and are top of the league - with a goal difference of +19 after just two games. The U14As are also early league leaders with three straight victories. There were also wins for the U18s, U13 Whites, U12As, U12Bs and U10As. And after struggling to find the net at all last year, the U10Cs have now scored four times in two matches - although their first league win is still proving elusive. It'll come lads!

IT'S A MARATHON...
16 September 2007 |
You know the cliche.....and it might just provide a little comfort for some of our teams this weekend.
The U11As played their first competitive 11-a-side game - they were also pitching in to the Premier Division of the highly-rated Epsom and Ewell League. The game ended in a 9-2 defeat as the boys grappled with the offside trap, but the gutsy performance gives plenty to build on. |
|
A run of twelve games undefeated last season earned the U13 Blacks the chance to play in a higher division. They learned that the higher standard can be unforgiving, as they lost 6-0 at Albury. But credit to all the Badgers who have stepped up a level this season - they will undoubtedly rise to the challenge and benefit from the experience as the season progresses.
Credit too to the U10s. The squad has been completely reorganised this season, bringing in more than a dozen new boys, taking on board U18 players as coaches and moving into the Epsom and Ewell League. In the opening fixtures there was a win, a draw and a defeat....a fanstastic start by all concerned.
There was plenty to cheer elsewhere - including strong wins for the U18s and both U14 and U12 sides. Click here for all the results and reports from 15/16 September. |

HOME COMFORTS
9 September 2007 |
A bumper weekend of home fixtures on the opening day of the new Badgers' season - and some bumper results too!
The U16As are the early leaders in the Horsham and District League, after a 7-3 win over Cranleigh Kestrels. The U16Bs were also impressive winners by 8-0 - but, |
|
astonishingly enough, still had to settle for second place in their league on goal difference!
Meanwhile the U12As, having stepped up to the Surrey Youth League, had a 4-0 win over Wandgas Youth in their first game. And in the traditional pre-season Brockham/Tadworth cup it was the Badgers' U11As who came away with the spoils.
With no fewer than seven Brockham teams scheduled for a home match on Saturday, the inevitable congestion on the Big Field gave rise to a surprising temporary venue for the U13As and U13 Blacks> They were kindly given permission by Dorking FC to play their matches at the club's Meadowbank stadium (see picture above).
