BELLY LAUGHS
23 December 2007 |
The rare sight of Brockham Badgers' Dads hauling their expanding girths up and down the pitch at (very moderate) speed greeted unsuspecting vistors to the Big Field this morning.
The annual U11s Lads v Dads Christmas clash took place in foggy conditions (both in terms of the weather and the Dads' game plan).
In previous years, the Dads have had to go easy on their boys. This year, with the U11 Assassins growing and moving successfully on to the 11-a-side game, they were hoping the boys would return the favour. |

The Ref: "This season I will mostly be wearing socks above the knee - and black tights"
|
"The Assassins' Dads were determined the only stuffing they were getting was to be accompanied by turkey on Christmas Day, and they were buoyed by the news that some key Assassins players were missing this morning. The light hearted start was soon overshadowed by some dodgy officiating, the trend of which was to continue throughout the match" writes Jason Rabbetts (a Dad) with traditional bias.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS
17 December 2007 |
There were plenty of reasons for the Badgers to have a Happy Christmas, as the last weekend's action before the holiday produced some excellent performances.
The U12As have progressed to the last 16 of the Surrey County Cup for the second season running. A 3-1 win at Sanderstead kept Simon Coffey's squad amongst the elite teams chasing the prestigious trophy. |

The U12As, displaying last season's league trophy, and in the hunt for more silverware this year!
|
Elsewhere, there were good wins for the U16Bs, both U14 sides, U13Blacks and U12Bs. The U13 Blacks, U11As and U9 Reds showed Brockham's fighting spirit by picking up points coming from behind.
And so, with the Christmas break looming, we have good reason to be proud of all the Brockham teams in the first half of the season. Without exception, they have achieved - by getting themselves well-placed for titles and promotion; by rising to the challenge of playing at a higher standard this year; or by continuing to compete week-in, week-out even when results haven't been going their way. The season resumes for most teams on 5th/6th January.

HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH
9 December 2007 |
Like Ricky Hatton, Brockham's U11As stepped up a weight this season - taking their place in the Epsom and Ewell Premier League. Also like the Hitman, their opponents on Saturday were undefeated. Brockham didn't have quite such good pedigree, but were undeniably in good form having risen to third place in the league.
Again like Hatton, the Badgers could also boast a strong start, getting to half-time 2-0 |
|
up against Bookham Colts. But then, like Floyd Mayweather, Bookham Colts stepped up a gear getting stronger as the contest wore on and scoring eight second-half goals without reply. Neverthless the U11 Badgers can still take great pride in pushing the league leaders so far - and will live to fight another day.
Elsewhere, the weather led to a number of postponements, but the U16Bs extended their lead in the Horsham and District League with a 5-2 home win and there were victories for the U13 (Whites) and U11Bs. U10As forward Andy Kehl has followed up last week's debut with a second match report for the website - you can read it with all this week's results and reports by clicking here. |

YOUNG GUNS
3 December 2007 |
Brockham's U10s don't just have the club's youngest coach...they now have our youngest match reporter too!
With Lewis Evans reaching the end of his Badgers playing career, the U18 has taken his coaching badges and begun managing the U10As this season. And this week, U10s striker Andrew Kehl has become the website's youngest-ever contributor. Read his detailed match report here. |
|
And the youthful combination is obviously paying off - the U10As had an excellent 4-0 away win this weekend. And Andy Kehl had no problem remembering the details of the goals - he scored the lot!
If any other Badgers players would like to contribute to the website - please do. Just jot down a bit of information about your match, and send it on a Sunday or Monday to info@brockhambadgersfc.co.uk.
