NOT QUITE VICTORIOUS...BUT STILL GLORIOUS
27 April 2008

The cruelties of football can come early in life. The U12As experienced them first hand this weekend.

Having stepped up to the Surrey Youth League this season, Simon Coffey's team went into their final game of the campaign needing just a draw to clinch the Premier North championship. Their opponents, title rivals Wandgas, had to win.

With five minutes to go it was all-square at 1-1 - but fate intervened and a free kick buried into the Brockham net snatched away the title at the last gasp of the season.

Nevertheless, it's been an astonishing achievement by the U12As - playing at the highest level of any Brockham Badgers team. They can be proud of their results and the way they have played. Simon Winter writes that they are a team "who play the most attractive attacking football, with the emphasis on good passing and width, grounded in solid defence, and in the best spirit - never unsporting, never giving up." Read his full report here.

We're equally proud of the U13 Blacks who were awarded the Horsham and District League's U13 Sportsmanship Award this weekend, beating 40 other teams to the trophy. It's the second time in three years that Bryan Bletso's squad have been recognised for their fair play, based on the assessments of their opponents throughout the season. Congratulations.

THE LATE, LATE SHOW
21 April 2008

Congratulations to the Badgers' U14As. They left it very late, but the Horsham and District B Division championship is theirs.

Going into the game with title rivals Albury Eagles, Brockham simply had to avoid defeat by four or more goals to clinch the league. But - by half time they were already 4-0 down!

With just six minutes remaining, the score was

the same - until up popped Callum Mackrell to pull a goal back and, with it, wrest the championship from Albury by a single goal. Rarely has a 4-1 defeat been celebrated so wildly! Well done to coach Martin Wright and his team who have also won promotion back to the A Division at the first attempt.

The U16Bs, who were crowned champions last week, celebrated with a 5-1 win at Horsham Sparrows in their last game of the season. And the U12As have set up a championship decider for next Sunday in their first season in the Surrey Youth League. Their 7-0 win leaves them needing just a draw when they travel to title rivals Wandgas, to win the league and promotion to next year's Premier Elite. Good luck boys!

CHAMPAGNE FOOTBALL
13 April 2008

The U16Bs celebrated their league championship with a shower of champagne and a 2-0 home win over local rivals Ockley on Wednesday evening.

It's been a highly successful final season with the Badgers for Phil Sheppard's team. After wrapping up the championship, they can now look forward to the Horsham and District Plate Final at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, the U13As continued their recent run if good form with a 4-1 win over Cranleigh. A point in their final game of the season will ensure they continue to play in the top Horsham and District Division next season.

It promises to be an exciting end to the league campaign for the U12As, playing their first season in the Surrey Youth League. After today's opponents defaulted, Simon Coffey's squad are now guaranteed a top two finish - and four points from the last two games will deliver the Premier North Championship. Good luck!

ANOTHER WEEK...ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP
10 April 2008

Brockham Badgers have claimed the club's fourth league championship of the season. A midweek home draw against Rudgwick, followed by a 4-0 win at Storrington was enough to wrap up the Horsham and District League for the U16Bs. They join the U8 Blacks, U12Bs and U14Bs as league champions. The U14As will also win their league title as long as they avoid a heavy defeat in their final game on 19th April.

Elsewhere, the sudden snowfall led to postponement of all Sunday matches, but the U10As wrapped up their season at home to NPL Youth. You can read goalkeeper Ben Giles' report on a hard-fought match here. Despite a narrow defeat, the boys can take pride in a strong first year in the Epsom and Ewell League, finishing fifth in their division.
