U12A 1 - 2 Corinthian Casuals
by Simon Winter and Bryan Bletso
Surrey Youth League

Brockham Badgers U12A fell to ther first defeat of the season, effectively losing the game in the opening ten minutes as a slow start and loss of concentration saw the visitors race into a 2-0 lead.  Even though Brockham
dominated the remaider of the game, a determined performance by the
visitors and in particular Casuals' goalkeeper meant that Brockham were
unable to turn their possession into goals.

Casuals took the lead on six minutes, a wayward defensive pass letting ion their striker, who finished well as Brockham keeper Matthew Batts
advanced to meet the ball.  It was 2-0 three minutes later, again the
normally dependable defensive unit uncharacteristically making mistakes.

Having lost only one league game last season, and only conceded a
handful of goals this year, the U12As are unused to having to chase games and, to be fair to the lads, they dug in and showed character by closing the half strongly. But one great goal line clearance from a Casuals defender ensured the visitors went in two goals to the good.

The second half saw the sort of fluent football Badgers have become
accustomed to playing, many good moves coming through captain and lad of
the match Ross Bangs.  But despite pressure, the ball just would not
fall for the side as Josh Brown,  Harvey Mewis, George Coffey and Bertie
Edwards -Hedges all went close.

However, with nine minutes to go, Brockham were given a life line, William Bletso pounicing on the ball in the box to reduce the arrears.  It looked like Brockham may go on and salvage at least a point, but Casuals clung on, surviving some late scares - including a missed Brockham penalty - to secure the win.

Team: Matthew Batts, Angus Hodge, Matt Higgins, Alex Nicholson,  Josh
Brown, Oli Winter, Bertie Edwards-Hedges, Harvey Mewis, George Coffey,
Ben Knight-Sawyers, William Bletso, Angus Hodge, Liam Ratcliffe, Dan
Hetzel.

Worcester Park Colts 3 - 2 U11A
by Paul Walton

Epsom & Ewell League

Despite a spirited second half fight-back, Brockham Badgers U11A couldn’t overcome a two goal first half deficit against Worcester Park Colts and eventually lost 3-2.

Both sides started frantically, but Worcester Park were first to find some rhythm.  They played a simple game whereas Brockham’s attempted clever touches failed.  They were strong and Brockham were unable to match them physically.

Despite this there were few chances and Worcester Park’s first half goals were a result of central defensive diffidence as much as attacking skill.  The first came from a free kick close to the right hand touch line which sailed unchallenged into the far corner.  The second bounced around the Brockham penalty area before looping tamely over Jamie Luckins in goal.

By contrast, the second half showed greater endeavour from both sides.  Within a minute, Brockham scored.  Good work by William Pereira and Sam Lloyd in the penalty area gave Jordan Martin the chance to turn and tuck the ball just inside the right hand post.  Minutes later a Worcester Park corner was well converted.

Brockham found more fluidity and created several good chances.  Ashley Marshall found Martin in space and he finished coolly by lobbing the keeper.

In an agonising last fifteen minutes Brockham came close, but couldn’t find the composure to draw level.

Player of the Week: William Pereira.

Captain's Comment:
"Brockham started two nil down at half time .Then after half time,
we scored two goals.  In the end it was very close and the other side won 3-2."
