We got lucky with the weather ...Billy the Badger breakdanced...the FA Cup took pride of place on the podium...and 192 teams played over 500 games in the biggest festival of football in Surrey.

After a week of rain, the pitches were well watered, but the sun shone brightly throughout the weekend for Brockham Badgers' fifth annual open tournament - Brockham 2010.

With the 'other World Cup' just underway in South Africa, the traditional World Cup theme with each visiting team adopting a footballing nation, was more colourful than ever. Flags, painted faces and national shirts were in abundance on Brockham's Big Field, the picturesque National Trust site that hosts the event, overlooked by the chalk-faced North Downs.

For the fifth year, Fulham FC attended the event and, after several years away, the Europa League Finalists' official mascot, Billy the Badger, made a welcome return to Brockham.

On Sunday, the FA Cup - the real trophy, not a replica - took pride of place on the Winners' Podium (accompanied by the FA's security team!). Players, friends and families were able to take their photo for free, standing next to the Cup. And the winning teams collected their own medals and trophies alongside it.

Once again, there was a freindly but competitive sporting atmosphere. Many of the visiting teams hailed it the best Brockham tournament yet. (You can read more comments from those who were there by clicking here.)

The football produced an extra reason for Brockham Badgers to remember the event. The first four years of the tournament had yet to see a home win but, at the fifth event Brockham 2010, the U15As finally did it - clinching a champions trophy after a penalty shoot-out victory in the final (see below). Tournament Director Jane Mahony says, "The Tournament is an ambitious event and a huge undertaking. Visiting teams are always amazed that a village football club can stage such an event. To sustain it, we are reliant on the good will of parents, families, friends and supporters.

Thanks to the volunteers, we refereed more than 500 games of football, assembled 704 pieces of goals, banged in 350 metal stakes, put out 800 traffic cones, served 1000 burgers, 700 sausages, 600 bacon rolls, and over 1000 cups of tea, and painted hundreds of faces. To everyone who gave an hour, a day or several days of their time to the Tournament in any way, we are very grateful.

We also hugely appreciate the enthusiasm of all 192 visiting teams and thank every one of the 1500 boys and girls who came along to play, and the thousands of family and friends who came to Brockham 2010 to support them."

Dates for Brockham 2011

And we're making plans to do it all again next year. Brockham 2011 will be our sixth annual event. Dates are provisionally set for 11th and 12th June 2011.

This year's event was fully booked with long waiting lists. Several age groups were full within a week of general registration opening. All teams who took part this year or were on the waiting list are already on the Mailing List for next year - and in pole position to get advance registration details for Brockham 2011.

If you didn't take part this year, but would like to be added to the Mailing List and receive Registration Details as soon as they are available (January 2011), please send an email to info@brockhambadgersfc.co.uk.

We hope to see you there!
