Brockham's annual open youth football tournament had it's biggest ever trophy this year.
The FA Cup was on display for the first day of the tournament. With the support of Surrey FA, the legendary trophy stood proudly, all day, on the podium at Brockham's Big Field, with the sun glinting off its highly polished lid. And for anyone who doubted that this was the real trophy that gets handed over each year at Wembley, the dents from some of the over-exuberant victory celebrations were there for all to see.
Players, friends and families were able to take their photo standing next to the Cup - and the winning teams collected their own medals and trophies alongside it.
It was one of the highlights of a memorable weekend at Brockham 09 as, once again, 192 teams with over 1500 players and around 5000 visitors came to our fourth annual event on the picturesque National Trust land in the shadow of the North Downs.
Once again there was a fanstastic friendly and sporting atmosphere, as players of all ability competed in a European Championship theme. Teams hbrought flags and had their faces painted. Some clus abandoned their traditional shirts and wore shirts of their 'adopted country' for the weekend. You can read more comments from those who were there by clicking here.

Tournament Director, Jason Rabbetts says, "Thank you - what more can I say? Once
again everyone involved in Brockham 09 ensured the event surpassed expectations.
So, on behalf of the club, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to:
|
the face painters who did over 400 faces;
the bar staff and the BBQ team who lost
at least a stone in the heat of the weekend;
the army of car parking marshals;
the set-up and take-down teams without whom there would be no competition
village;
the Competition Centre crew who produced results and league
tables for more than 500 games;
the
Elliott Jones deli gang who added some "health" to the
catering on offer; the Tuck Tent girls who filled the kids with sugar
and kept the tea flowing; the mums at home who contributed cakes
the match officials who donated their
weekend and their body in scorching sun to make the decisions that
count;
the goal gang who assembled and collapsed 704 pieces of
goal;
all the many other unsung volunteers;
our sponsors and community supporters who have either
funded or donated equipment and resources;
and last but not least of course the boys and
girls, without whom the whole event would be pointless."
